I have been working with QB since last May. I am so confused. Trying to get taxes figured out . For the first time I found a video I could actually understand. I had no idea until now that I could put the credit card on QB. I just did my first reconcile after putting in my transactions and it was so easy. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Still a bit befuddled!! but get a grasp so next year will be better. Cheryl

@@CandusKampfer Thank you so much for great video. This is just to enter a credit charge in order to pay later for expense but .. 1. What if company buys a new computer with credit charge, do I have to record it as an asset? 2. What if company buys an inventory with credit card such as buying clothes to sell, it needs to record an inventor too. Do I choose an item to record new clothes??? So if #1, do I need to add a new computer in chart account for fixed asset and input a purchase amount $1000 let’s say. Then go credit card to enter a charge for $1,000 expense at Best Buy? If #2, do I need to select items since it’s inventory buying with card?

Thanks so much! Really well done. I have a MUCH better understanding. Really hit it on the head with explaining the timing of when certain activities can/should be done such as entering charges, reconciling and making payments. So many videos are focusing on the mechanics of what to do (great), but still need the business application and understanding. My next endeavor is finding a quickbooks quick-reference dictionary of all the transaction TYPES found in the AP, AR, etc registers-- i.e BILLPMT vs BILL vs CC CREDIT, etc. Understanding those TYPES is key to troubleshooting errors, but they're not that intuitive and not that obvious to me when certain TYPES shouldn't show up in certain registers and indicate an error. Thanks again.

Thank you for this! I just started doing the QB for my dad's company a month ago and even though I mostly have the basics down I wasn't quite sure if what I was thinking to zero out the CC balance was correct, because he pays the bill in full every month so we never have a balance. Usually I enter all CC charges separately in the CC charges and then pay the bill with the one check( he pays everything by handwritten check, I just have to record the data in QB) so the bill shows as paid, but I wasn't sure how to reflect that in the actual credit balance, after watching this I realized reconciling to zero was what I needed to do to show the correct balance so he doesn't have a freak out moment seeing his balance lol.

This is exactly what my question was - how to enter cc charges in QB even though I don't pay off the full balance! One more question though - is it necessary for me to begin in January (it's Aug 2022 right now)? I have been paying the full credit card balance up until June due to cash flow issues. Can I just add the credit card and begin in June? (I never added the credit card into the Chart of Accounts - I've just been writing a check in QB and adding the charges to the proper expense account line by line for that check, since I was paying the balance in full)

Hi Candus. When my company gets an invoice I enter it into enter bills. We usually pay our bills by check once a week. There are occasions where my boss will change his mind and pay a few vendors using our credit card. This is after the bill is already entered in QuickBooks.Should I delete the bill and then enter it into credit card charges or is there a way I can change the bill into a credit card charge.

I learned so much. Ty. I have 2 ??... I deleted transactions from COA mainly bc I didn't understand. Now, when I RE-import from the downloaded qbo file, QB says there's nothing to import. How do I fix this without entering all year manually? Also, our techs get gas from almost every gas station in the state, and I don't want all as vendors, but need for it to import...can this be done? Right now, when imported, in register, the vendor section is blank. Sincerely, Frustrated.

I have been using QB for yearsss and have always entered our CC statements as a bill with the vendor being the CC company and therefore it is tracked via AP with all the expenses being itemized on that one bill in QB. This video was eye opening to see that I should really be entering them all as individual CC charges and then reconciling against the payment. I understand the concept of doing it that way, but if I do, how do you manage when the payment is due? Make a note in my Outlook calendar so I remember to pay it :)

After watching this video and entering credit card charges for a previous month, I noticed that the previous Office Manager has not reconciled the credit card account with multiple users for a year and a half. She was utilizing the Bank Feed option in QB and then merely "matching" it up to the credit card statement. I believe that we should reconcile, too to ensure that nothing was missed. With that being said, can I just start with the beginning of 2022 until current? And if so, how would I get that beginning balance corrected? Thanks in advance.

The person in my position before me only put in credit card charges and payments for the past 10+ years. I know the balance is zero but it shows being over $175,000. I don't have statements that date back that far. If I know the balance is zero how can I fix that and reconcile moving forward? The account was only reconciled a few times in 2006.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. My boss just ask me to enter the credit card charges... all of it from Jan 2018 to date. Not a problem to me, just a lot of data entry. My problem is how will I go back and pay it since according to our bank statement it was already paid as a lump sum? See, what I do is just enter the itemized bank statement then reconcile it, just simple as that. Now the business is taking a lot of expenses he want to tract the credit card expenses. Thank you.

Hi Candus, I am the office manager for a small contractor and learning to use QB. In your video, you said that when you are instructing people about how to make a credit card payment, you don't typically show the breakdown of what charges the credit card payment goes towards because people get confused, and that you normally handle that one-on-one with clients. We are trying to determine the materials cost per address where we complete jobs (electrical work and landscaping), so I am creating a class for each address serviced. Let's say I put in my credit card charges/transactions individually and note the class for each as well as enter any refunds and enter the class to which the refund corresponds as you have explained. Then when I make a credit card payment (typically a partial payment), is there any reason I would need to learn how to do a breakdown of what charges my payment corresponds to, or would I just delete the charges breakdown as you did in this video and select my credit card account as the account type? (In other words, if I am classing the Cc charges, is there any reason to enter the breakdown when I make a payment?) I hope this makes sense. Thank you! Leah
@leahmoore7452
6 жыл бұрын
Hi, Candus. Thak you for the reply. The problem is that the customer is the same for all addresses -- it's a homebuilder and we do their landscaping and electrical work. So it's one customer and multiple classes for the same customer. In that case, doesn't it make sense to use classes?
@leahmoore7452
6 жыл бұрын
Hi again, Candus. Why is using classes "just too much"? How is it harder than using customers / jobs? We've been using our QB file this way for nearly 2 years and that's just how it's set up. I have to go back and enter my credit card charges and reconcile statements starting with the beginning of this year and ignoring the months prior (we started use of this credit card last October). So knowing that, in reference to my original question, I will need to make modifications to my payments. When I do that, do I just delete the charges breakdown I had entered when making the payment and just credit all of the payment to the account type of my credit card? (Please note that the bank statements that include these payments have already been reconciled themselves - I hope this won't cause any problem). Thanks again, Leah
