Epoxy quartz floors are similar to flake because they are built by broadcasting colored filler into wet epoxy. Different than a flake, they don’t hide much. Missed surface imperfections, incomplete patches, and even grinder marks can be highlighted by an epoxy quartz floor. While more forgiving than a solid color floor, extra time should be budgeted to prepare this coating system’s canvas.
The video documents the surface preparation preceding a quartz floor. Though new, this slab needed some repairs that weren’t obvious until after the first grind. Absent these few spots, there was also the matter of preparing and filling a control joint that required some improvisation. Once all this was done, the floor was re-ground using a 70 grit 10 segment to be sure the aggressive grinding marks (and repairs ) were flattened. This was done to limit the likelihood of the topcoat telegraphing anything other than a smooth substrate beneath it.
