Thank you for the video. I asked you once how you were doing the etching on the blades, thank you for the answer again and thanks for the video. I’m from europa and finding an etching machine was quite difficult. I also found the stencils like you have but also found a printer (less than €100) that prints small stencils you can make on your Computer and works quite well. The stencil work one time then you throw it away . With it, you don’t need to ask a company to make your stencils. Your stencils are more professional but just saying it for info. Thanks again !! Great videos !

So I am going to get all this. Thankyou! 2 questions; How long to the stencils take to arrive generally, and haw many times can one stencil be etched. Cheers.

Nice! I’d say they usually take 1-2 weeks once the order is placed. In my experience, a stencil can be used for at least 25-40 knives before they start to show signs of wear. It probably depends on how you use them too.

@@StarkKnives And how long does a stencil last?
@StarkKnives

Quite a long time! I definitely can get at least 50 marks out of each individual logo before it starts degrading. It could be more though, I haven’t ever counted exactly.

Thank you posting this video. I built the etcher James Keeton (redbeardops) shared and ordered stencils from old brownie forge, which I’ve been very happy with. I’m following the same process of etch and mark, but find I need to touch-up the finish following either on the buffer or 800grit pulls. I haven’t seen you needing to do any touch-ups in videos. Is this something you sometimes need to do also or is it part of my process I need to improve? If you have to do a touch-up, what’s your approach?

I have needed to do it sometimes on certain carbon steels. It can leave a bit of a haze, but often it is clean as is. If not, usually I just do similar to you and go over it with a very fine sandpaper. On stainless steels I pretty much have never had to do any cleanup. Hope that helps!

@@StarkKnives helpful, thank you. This has been on high carbon. I have adjusted this step to before handle glue up because of touch-up, which has helped. Thanks again.

I’ve etched steel with home made tape stencils and a few batteries before. Would this type of stencil work with any voltage/current source and electrolyte?

I believe so! I don’t think the type of stencil should make a difference with that. 😃

I am a big fan of W2 lately. 1095 and 1084 are also always nice and easy to work with and give great results.
