Very excited to discover this very comprehensive series! I really need to educate myself to do better with South Africa's Smallmouth & Largemouth Yellowfish. These are very big, very strong fish that feed pretty much like trout do. Pound for pound they outfight the Zambezi Tigerfish! The allure of hunting these fish is captivating, but I have been absolutely useless so far on 4 trips to the Orange River. Something needs to change! I really hope this series will turn my fortunes around!

I stumbled upon this channel very recently and I’m loving every videos and I’m now very excited about this dedicated Euro nymphing for beginners. However, more than the just pure amazing and very well done content, I really, really appreciate the emphasis that you put into the safe handling of our finned friends and how to keep them as healthy as possible while in our care. I always thought that fishing is extremely fun but it’s also a very “selfish” sport in which us humans are having all the fun while the poor fish have to endure some suffering. So, I really love to know all the information possible on how to at least provide better chances of survival to the fish that I get. You are basically the only KZitem channel that I have seen that push so much the safety of our fish. Well done 👍👍

Congratulations on such an excellent presentation. I bought my ESN 4 weight set up for our larger Kiwi fish but never really enjoyed the process over conventional indicator nymphing. Just last week I decided to persist with your guidance and landed a 4lb brown on my first lob. At last, I've finally found the style of fly fishing to retire into and prolong the passion. After over 55 years of fishing & chasing trout in particular my older body just won't allow me to do what I use to be able to do anymore. This style of fishing, so effective that it is, allows me to work smaller streams & more physically accessible areas at my own pace. Even highly pressured waters produce fish to those who know how to fish it properly. Thank you for the first class instruction, it slots into my experience and gives me a wonderful new direction and skill set to develop & hone. Nymphing has always been a tough, hit and miss type of affair with standard fly gear, but it doesn't have to be that way, does it? Once again, thank you.
@WhiteDogTrailCompany

I totally agree with you! If you can learn to nymph effectively you'll be able to fish pressured water and still produce when others don't. I struggled with nymphing on regular fly gear but once I learned Euro Nymphing it literally changed my life!

Well I’m glad you found us! I do like the Sage ESN but I find it lacks backbone on larger fish. I would recommend checking out Diamondback Ideal Nymph rods. They have a deeper bend to protect tippet but the backbone is incredible once it gets bent. I can handle really big fish in heavy water without issue on the 10’10” 2 wt. Hope you enjoy the rest of the series!

Loved the video. I've been fly fishing for 50 or so years. Every time I felt like I had a handle on all the information, techniques and gear, I'm suddenly shocked to find that I don't know jack! I happened upon this vid by chance - just curiosity about what Euro-Nymphing was really about. I struck it rich with your video. You have an incredible gift as an educator.. Your topic presentations are concise and provide massive amounts of easy to understand information. I especially love how the CC always translates "Euro-nymphing" to the much more amusing "urination". Good for a chuckle anyway. I'm looking forward to watching your other videos in the series. I'm not sure I'm ready to step up to your techniques, but clearly, much of the information relates to standard strike indicator fishing as well. Many thanks!

Ah yes! I talk about it a bit in Volume 2 when discussing leaders and leaving tag ends. But it has mostly to do with casting technique (Volume 3). Try to keep the rod tip moving in an oval and not straight back and forth. If you can keep the line/flies following the rod tip and you're keeping the motion in an oval they should not get tangled. I'll show a lot of angles of the casting motion (including overhead) in Volume 3. I do talk about it a bit in our 5 Mistakes video as well if you haven't seen that. kzitem.info/news/bejne/mpp9m2V4o2ejaaQ

Thanks for the response and I seem to do ok with managing tangles while fishing but was getting tangles between the 2 flies tippets and around rod (in wind) when moving to new spots. Learned a tip with using small rubber band on rod since then - will try that.
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
3 жыл бұрын
@@stanchesshir538 OH! Yes.. The rubber band can work... I also will hook the flies on each other. I take the point fly and wrap it around the base of the reel between the reel and the rod and bring it back up toward the dropper fly and hook the 2 hooks together and then tighten the line. It works but your hand might be close to the hook points lol.

@WhiteDogTrailCompany
7 ай бұрын
Ah yeah... I go over it when I redo my leader in one of the videos in the series (a little later than the first 5 parts of the series). Essentially, use the same mono for your mono rig as you do for the mainline section of your leader. For me that is about 12# although I'll be likely dropping that down further this season. For steelhead euro I do 15#. If you are a beginner the thicker lines like the 20# will feel easier to cast. As you get used to it, you may want to slowly drop that weight down. Lighter leaders (micro leaders) increase sensitivity and help show minute movements in your leaders and sighter.

Excellent course man! Exactly what I was looking for to get started in Euro Nymph style. I Dry Fly Fished for many years, but this Euro Nymph style is totally new to me, and I want to learn it. Thinking about a Winston Euro rig, and now I know the best rig will be 10' 4 wt. or 3wt. Thanks for the gear info as I was almost going to pop on a 9' all around rig.

That's so awesome! Thank you! Best of luck with your Wild Irish Browns! I have a friend in Ireland who does a lot of swinging for Atlantic Salmon and Sea Run Browns. He is now getting into nymphing as well.
