Jared!! Finally a website that's easy, Go Squarespace! Also, I got what you were saying about exporting, my question is and has been when cropping in Lr it has different print sizes to use plus you can unlock the sizing and do free hand cropping to get the photo to look like you want it which is OK for the web but, when you take to a printer it doesn't come out cropped the same. Any suggestions???

DPI (Dots Per Inch) settings are only applicable when printing an image. It doesn't make any difference what DPI setting you use for web images. It's the (pixel) width and (pixel) height of an image which are important. Test it out for yourself save an image at 72 DPI and another at 300 DPI now export them for the web and I promise you will see no difference.

Jared, do you notice a difference than if you were to print in PDF? The local print house converts everything you send (psd, nef, tiff) into PDF and prints that. I've just always been told to stay away from jpeg, or at least JPEG2000 if you have to.

On export to print, you would still use sRGB over AdobeRGB? I was told by a Canon Rep (cuz I have the Pixma Pro 10) to use sRGB for websites and AdobeRGB for printing pictures. Just curious on your thoughts on that.

A resolution for 300 ppi for web seems to be too much. I've read that a resolution of 72 ppi is ideal. What do you think?
@Ya666Wa
7 жыл бұрын
2'500px on the longer side is not ideal, since your images are mostly in a 3:2 ratio. But 2500 does not divide by 3... but try to use 2'499, which will result in 1'666 on the shorter side: Problem solved :)

I'm considering building a wordpress website for the reasons you mentioned, but I noticed what you mentioned about resolution (pixels per inch) and I must disagree with this, pixels per inch has nothing to do with the quality of the image, the photo is going to be 2500px long edge in both situations, and obviously the 2500px 300dpi would have the same file size as a 2500px 72dpi image. Pixels per inch is the information the file gives in order to print the right amount of pixels per paper inch, e.g when you have a 2500px file at 300dpi (pixels per inch) you get a smaller print (about 21cm) but the pixel is printed smaller so its not visible, when you print the same 2500px file, converted in ps, not resampled or re exported at 72dpi, the print would be at about 88cm but the pixels will be visible. When you are using an image for digital devices or internet, dpi value doesn't matter at all, also I think it is very important when resizing a picture to check the right sharpening method, LR or in PS, it doesn't matter, images will look a little soft due to resizing algorithm. I agree that sRGB is the best distribution profile. Cheers!

Why would you ever use 300PPI images on your website? That is killing your site loading speed, which Google has become obsessed with and will penalize your site for fractions of a second extra load time. You say square space resizes the image for you, ok, but that's just another reason not to export such large files because no one is even seeing the larger files you are making. If it is going to be displayed at 72PPI then why export it at 300PPI? You are more than tripling the image size just so it can take up more space, take more time to upload, and then your website's template has to resize from 300PPI to 72PPI. What is the reason for this? I don't understand.

For printing you can use quality to 95 instead of 100. Compared to 100 you get smaller files with 95 and dont lose to much of details. I also use ugly ass watermark for all exports except printing and mobile device.

Two questions... 1) Why do you not select any sharpening option on export? 2) Why would you not select "Do not Enlarge"? Seems enlarging, at least if a lot, degrades the image quality.

What if you are going to be printing the image in all different sizes. Can you just uncheck resize to fit so it doesn't downsize it to a specific size?Also what do you do for the sharpening on export? Do you sharpen for screen and then sharpen for print or do you have this turned off?

Hy Jared. Nice Video. I just like to say, that leaving the FIles at 300dpi makes no sens when you are not planing to Print the same FIle. If you are creating Files for the Web - the Computer Monitores can only work with 72dpi. More is for nothing. You get better results by making a JPG with Qualitysilder set by 90 odr 95 and let the dpi at 72. I really like to turn on Sharpening on for Monitors. You loose sharpnes by shrinking down the Resolution.... Try it out. Would like to hear your oppinion on this version of export. Thanks. Have a nice Day. Sven
