This is the first Indesign Export tutorial for kdp that is not incredibly confusing. It's so easy when explained clearly. Thank you! We publish about a book a year, so I everytime have to check again how to exactly export. The last time your tutorial was not around yet and it took way longer to make sure the export is correct. It's so important to make sure the export is correct, so this is very valueable.

Thank you for another excellent video. I haven't done any children's books yet, but for all the other things I've done, I always have had to convert to CMYK. ❤️🐈

Bethany; I have a 21 chapter novel set in the ID book format. Whenever I try to export the export button is hidden. As soon as I open one chapter the export button appears. What's up?

Hi Bethany, your videos are amazing! Thank you. If one wants to try to draw pictures for one’s own book, (even if one can’t really draw :-( ) have you prepared a video that one could watch about that, ie where to draw one’s pictures and how to manipulate them to the point where one could include them in one’s actual book. Many thanks. Keep up the great work.

I found your InDesign videos so helpful! Is there a reason you don't export an X-1a or X-3 PDF for KDP and IngramSpark? I've always done that, but now I wonder if there is a difference between those and a regular print PDF. And, now they have X-4, lol!

IngramSpark says they prefer an X-1a but I've found it doesn't make a difference. 🙃

Thx this was a great help. I have a colour motifs on pages, but in the Amazon preview they are B&W, which of the ID settings will reveal them as colour ?

Wow... I have searched the internet far and wide for the details you provided here. THANK YOU! I am on my fifth (after this video, it will be sixth) proof, and I continue to be unhappy with the quality of KDP. Hoping your recommendations here will make the difference! I assume you have had an overall positive experience with KDP?

Glad it was helpful! And yes, I truly do like KDP and use KDP for my books currently - though it isn't for everyone. I think they offer the best quality for a POD service for full color children's books.

Your video was so helpful. I have a question, if the images are in rgb then the settings will be" no color conversion"?
@BethanyStahl
11 ай бұрын
If they are in RBG and you are uploading to KDP you won't need to convert, or if they are RGB and you are exporting into an ebook then you don't have to change it, however for printers such as IngramSpark, I do recommend converting.

What a great tutorial! amazing, thank you!! I have one question: Ingram Sparks suggests a 0.125" (3 mm) white strip within the trim area, on the bind side of the page, for perfect bound and hardcover books. How do you suggest doing it?
@BethanyStahl
Жыл бұрын
I dont recommend adding it, but I recommend keeping all important information away from the center so nothing is lost when it is bound.

Thank you, Bethany, your videos are very helpful! I have a question about ebook, Amazon needs Epub file, how and where (in which program) do you do your ebooks in this format? Thanks for your help!🙏

You can export it as a epub through InDesign (it will be an option at the bottom - choose the fixed option) or if you'd prefer to work from a PDF to get a MOBI file (which KDP is still accepting for fixed formats) you can use Kids Kindle Book Creator and that tutorial is here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/pJCkt45jiqiLepw

What do I do if the file is more than the maximum 650mb?
@BethanyStahl

There are compressors that are free online or you can change your settings in the final export screen to lower settings that may help decrease the size.

I'm making a 6"x9" art book to sell on KDP, and I followed all the instructions of the KDP guidelines, but something isn't right with the exported PDF when I view in acrobat. It's like the pages are spilling over into each other. Every page shows a small margin of the last page on it. This is effecting my whole book. Is this just a common glitch of viewing in acrobat(and nothing is wrong with the file -and i should try uploading to KDP)? Or, is this most likely a margin/gutter setting issue from InDesign? If this is a margin or gutter issue, it's strange to me because everything shows up fine in InDesign, and all the settings are set to exactly what KDP requires for a book with bleed. I haven't been able to find any answers or help regarding this issue, and I'm hoping you can help. If this post is not appropriate for this community, any guidance is much appreciated!!
