I don't think that really matters for regular people, because if your device gets stolen, it's usually because of the device itself and not its data. It is easy to wipe the password just by connecting the device to a computer (but all the data is lost). If you are a person carrying super important confidential information, you really should take additional security measures.

Fingerprints are usernames, not passwords. You cannot enter someone's phone when powered off with just a fingerprint, you need a separate password to decrypt it. Obviously phone manufacturers don't use your fingerprint as an encryption tool. This video is clickbait.

"Excuse me sir. Could I have you squish this ball of dough and then allow me to have your phone?" I realize that I'm over exaggerating, but the reality is this is a really unlikely scenario. It could work with someone who is close to you and that you come into frequent contact with. But even then it would be easier to just watch their code being typed in. The opportunities for this to work fall exponentially when you aren't personally close to the other person. You might get a latent print, but it's unlikely you will be able to go make a copy of it and then follow them around until they leave their phone unattended in your presence (which is not likely because they don't know you). And let's be honest, cellphone security is really mostly a means to make you feel better about things. It's like a padlock. It helps keep good people honest, but somebody who wants in can get in with a little work.

And how is this a problem if the person never gets access to your phone? I mean, if he takes it without permission, it's pretty much stealing. He can do all sorts of things like factory resets (and go around the protective loopholes for factory resets). Plenty of software that can do this kind of thing if the stealer knows about it. Most likely, if u gonna steal someone's phone, u r some kind of low life person so whatever password u put, it will be redundant...

Evan Nakagawa well, my email doesnt contain much. Nothing online contains more than I am willing to shout out loudly if asked to. I do not have a bank account or anything legal on my email. And while I do understand how most people rely on security, I dont because I haven't got to that stage of life yet. But I do believe that where there is a will and there is determination there is a way. This guy's finger print hack makes it easier to access the phone that if the person just had a key pad that is well protected from brute force... That is why I only use them to protect my flagship that cost me some good money, when someone sees it on the pavement they will have difficulty using it at all and will eventually return it. A person woth such knowledge of how to hijack a phone probably has better hardware so why would he need to steal?

Well, at the point someone else has physical access to your phone, I wouldn't say it's safe wether it's locked with fingerprint or passcode lock.

Why does it look like the "real" fingerprint unlock the phone better than an actual fingerprint....

How like is it that an average user will have their phone hacked thusly? Almost nil. But! Higher ups in industry and government should take precautions.

6 digits pass code is still the better way to secure your device but then again, people forgets their password quite easily.

Ideally you should be using 10 digits.

+ahpadt Well, honestly after 6 digits, every log in is a waste of time. People might even be incentivized to not put on a password.

+Webster Kollie I'd suggest a password like "mynameisjeff" in numbers. That's 12 digits. Bingo! hard to break into, easy to remember.

So you're saying I should be nervous about someone stealing my figure prints off a leaked government data base printing them with a 3d printer... to hack into my phone which is in my pocket 80 percent of the time and in my line of sight the other 20?

Doesn't the US usually take the fingerprint of your thumb? What if you use any other finger, wouldn't that solve the problem?

The person who is putting code on their phone other one wants to know the code then he will follow the CCTV camera where that person come and go to the shop and he will capture from CCTV camera . By asking to the CCTV camera owner.

The bombing in Spain was blamed on a former US soldier (who was also a muslim) from his finger print but it turned out it was the wrong person even though the finger print was a match on the US fingerprint database.
