Fertilizing fruit trees in Spring is important to the quality of your fruit and overall tree care. By early or mid April, most fruit in your back yard orchard has set, and your fertilizing will support fruit growth into early summer. To support flowering and fruiting, yet minimizing vegetative growth, use a low nitrogen, high phosphorus, high potassium feed. I use a 3-12-12 feed for all my fruit trees.
