Great advice. If they get in deep, cooler water it can make for a long fight regardless of technique.

Gotta fight a tarpon like you are willing to break them off...between structure, sharks, other boaters, buoys, etc there's so much that can and probably will go wrong if you play them too much.

Even a "quick" 15 minute tarpon fight is a long fight of you compare it to other fish, the average fight with a bass is 30 seconds, a king salmon in 5 minutes, tarpon are strong fish.

What is the brand of fishing rod and reel used in the video?

Can't believe he considers 30 pound braid to be "heavy" tackle, that's light to my standards. I've lost many tarpon and big fish on 30 pound braid. Upgraded to 50 pound power pro super slick and haven't lost a fish since.

The rod was a custom rod that Capt. Hollywood had built a while back. The reel was a 4500 Daiwa BG which is now my new favorite reel for tarpon given how well it handled while only being $130. Here's a link to learn more about the reel in case interested: fishstrong.com/products/daiwa-black-gold

He fucked up big time at the end by pulling the big guy by the line when jumping that' fish doesn't count as a catch, just take your time, even a small tarpon will get away when reaching the boat by first time if you do that.
