Incredible shots! Would you take a similar approach for a translucent bottle? We have some bottles that are white, but the liquid shows through and I find them mostly horrific to photograph!!

Austen I am struggling with a lemonade project I am practicing with. Would translucent paper behind the cup be the best? Anything else I get a blown out look because the liquid is so clear and light bouncing around, and just the backdrop...just looks ugly as a foot.

But what about transparent liquor-bottles? Like Gin? I'm shooting a gin commercial right now and it's a real headache 😩

It would be the same thing you just wouldn't have a back light for the bottle! All bottles bring their own challenges but just take a deep breath and you will get through it!

@@AustenPaul Thank you so much for the reply. Did exactly what you said. Though I didnt manage to remove the camera reflections from the golden part of the top of the bottle. Hey Austen, for the lens, since I shoot on the Panasonic S5 and when shooting at 4K60 it has an APS-C crop.. would you recommend I get a 70mm Macro so that way it's somewhat equivalent to 100mm in APS-C or should I go for the 105mm Macro (105 is the only one for L-mount). Or will filming 30fps be fine? I can get full-frame at 4k30.
@AustenPaul
Жыл бұрын
Always film at 30 the crop is lower qaulity use the 105 macro

Just a thought... Why not support your paper cutout from the bottom (the exact same way) instead of the top? That would eliminate the step of removing the support skewer from the shot. There may be a good reason you're doing so from the top like the paper won't support itself and will fall over.
@sunilchitolie6771
Жыл бұрын
Might be because of the type of material the diffusion (tracing paper) is made of. If it’s supported from the bottle it’ll just fall down cuz it’s so light
@KrazyDerek
Жыл бұрын
@@sunilchitolie6771 You wouldn't need to attach it to the very bottom of the paper though, it could still hang down from 2 sticks connected into a T shape for example, with it all hidden behind the base.

I haven’t tried it so I could be wrong but Sunil is right the paper wouldn’t stand up it would fall over and also your idea of building a frame with the sticks it would show up inside the bottle giving a weird reflection. Again not 100 percent sure but from my experience of doing this a bit I pretty positive it would happen.
@KrazyDerek

@@AustenPaul True, I see what you mean. Maybe curve the paper so it holds itself up and have it stuck to a flat tripod head or similar?

Loved that concept for Bird Creek! I was sat here wondering how you got the cocktail stick to spin whilst clamped to a C Stand 😂 only to realise after that it was the bottle spinning in front of it! Simple but clever!
