Great video! Very helpful for new people in the hobby. Also, how to spot a recast listing on eBay, if they say "free eyes & makeup" in the title and description, that is usually a sign that it is a recast. Also, if you are knowledgable of different companies and clued up about them, if you check what resin colours the legit dolls come in and compare it to the BJD in question, that can help. Just be careful that legit doll companies sometimes change their resin colours or have events where they have a limited period of orders with certain resin colours that you can't get outside of that event, or even discontinue certain resin colours, but if you can clue yourself up on around the time when the doll was made and what colours were/are offered and what they should look like, it is possible to tell which is legit and fake. For instance, Luts sometimes has limited time events where you can get BJDs in different colours not usually available to order. Clueing yourself up on what colours Luts has available and has had available in the past, especially if those colours are only for certain sculpts they have/had available, can help. Basically, if you research the doll you are interested in, you know the company and/or sculpt name, it can be easier. I know Den of Angels is not the best place for everyone, but I have found my account is useful for looking for owner pictures and any advice the owners have on such dolls. The DoA database for BJDs is also a godsend to me. Also, not totally a failsafe way, but if the doll comes with a box that is an official box of the company, say, it is a Dollzone box with the official print and "I'm here" on it, there is a chance it is a legit Dollzone. Looking for clues such as these all help to verify the dolls legitimacy. I am used to weeding out the recasts from the legit on eBay, so they are pretty easy for me to spot now. But it annoys me that there are so many recast listings because for me, it is like spam on the site. But if you can tell what is recast and what is legit, eBay is a great tool for bargains. I got my AOD Shi off of eBay for just under £100. Which is a steal. He was used, but just yellowed and a few small chips that are really not noticeable on the wrists, and a few shiny spots on his faceup, but that is it.

Yes! I agree there should be a head plate image registry area.... maybe on Den of Angels. That would be such a great resource!

It honestly blows my mind that one doesn't exist already.

Great video! eBay is *such* an underutilized tool for purchasing BJDs due to fear of recasts. I think many collectors/hobbyists are intimidated by the process of searching for legits, so thank you for demonstrating and "demystifying!" You so hit the nail on the head with this: 1) do lots of research and 2) ask questions! Also, I didn't know you could put a "-" in front of a word to exclude it, so you've taught me something new today. :) I will always sort by condition > used to help weed out the recasts myself. I love old/early BJDs and sometimes eBay is literally the *only* place I can find them. It's such a worthwhile source to scour, but you need to be willing to put in the time to avoid a bad purchase.
