This works! However, your file names are very specific. But I have a huge drumsounds folder with maps that contain probably over 200 files that are titled "kick.wav" or "snare.wav". Now it gets tricky. I have projects from 2006 that open, but they all load with the wrong "snare.wav" sample. I have been saving as .zip files ever since. However this is annoying as well because .zip files take way longer to open etc. Any tips on the above?

Sorry for the late response! I wish I had a good answer, but I have no idea. Sounds like a lot of manual work in order to unpack that one. Sounds like diversifying file names would be the best options since FL Studio doesn't seem to use other information to differentiate project samples.

That's a hard one! I don't believe so. If your shorten the file names then idk that FL Studio will recognize the files to try and pull them into the project. You would most likely have to drag them back into the project one by one.

great info, Are you able to migrate your entire FL software and engines, etc over to an external drive I've been trying to but nothing online as proven useful. Any advice?
@ScaleAudio
Жыл бұрын
Great question, I wouldn't think so. FL Studio will generally install and run out of the "Program Files" folders. I'm unsure if this installation path is a requirement or not (if it is not a requirement then you may be able to tell FL studio to install to an external drive). I don't think you would be able to change where everything is saved after you have installed FL Studio because application files generally point to specific files within the intial directory you install to (such as C:\Program Files). This means if you move everything after the initial installation, the program will most likely fail to find items it is looking for in that original installation path and wont run properly. With that said, in theory, you may be able to install FL Studio to an external drive, however, you will most likely only be able to run it on the original computer you installed it on and not on any secondary computers. The reason for this is that software installations will generally edit things in what's called the Windows Registry. The Windows Registry is local to the device itself and these Registry changes allowing FL Studio to run wouldn't exist on a second device.
@ScaleAudio
Жыл бұрын
On the other hand, if you want to experiment with possibilities. You may be able to install windows on your external hard drive or create bootable media out of an operating system snapshot. If you use something like Ventoy, you can change a usb (for example) into a bootable device. If you save your operating system (with FL Studio installed) as it's own bootable media then you could in fact take FL Studio along with you as well as any local Registry changes. This is because you wouldn't be taking FL Studio with you. You would be taking your entire windows operating system with you. The only issue you might run into with this is audio driver problems. You may have drivers installed that will be incompatible with the device you are booting to.

@ScaleAudio
Жыл бұрын
This method will only work if the audio samples exist on your hard drive somewhere. If resetting your hard drive wiped all your samples and you never re-downloaded them, then it will not work. On the other hand, if after resetting your hard drive, you re-downloaded or moved all of your samples back onto the hard drive again. Then yes, this work.

I don’t know if you can help but I didn’t know my computer was running low on storage space until I started noticing after saving an fl file, the file itself would instantly shrink to a ridiculously low storage size, then when reopening the file parts of the song or all of the song would be gone. When opening no message of a corrupted file will appear, and will take quicker than usual to open, no stretching of samples, or time stretching, all my mixers are empty, and when I try to click on a vst FL studio freezes and doesn’t respond. Checked my storage and still had some left but close to being full, could this be the culprit? And if so any ideas on how to restore these files?
@ScaleAudio
3 ай бұрын
This is very interesting. It could definitely be due to you running low on space. May be a problem with FL itself. Could also be a failing SSD or HDD. If your disk has SMART statistics you could check those to see it's health. You could also try a "check disk" if you are using Windows. If you go down the Hard Drive troubleshooting path and have an SSD don't defrag the drive, it's bad for it.

If you go through Documents\Image-line or the program files\Image-line folders, they will most likely be in there. I don’t remember the exact file paths but you might be able to Google them. If you can’t find them in there, and adding your C: drive (or whatever drive has all your data) to the folder settings doesn’t work, they might be gone.

If you go to the "Project" settings tab in FL Studio, you can choose when you are asked for the "Project Folder". You can also choose the Project Folder for the current project via this menu. Once a Project Folder is chosen, you can click the button for "Copy used samples to project folder". This will copy the projects audio files to the folder your FL Project is in.

Is there any possibility in FL studio to have a view on where my drum fills used to be? It would be nice if it could show me for example: Cannot find file location: C:/xy/asd/Cymatics xy pack/; Because then I could know that oh shit yea it was in a cymatics pack and then I can download it again. But now unfortunately all I know is that the 2 drum fills I used in the projects were called "135 BPM Fill 5" and "190 BPM Fill 5". I really want to bring back those fills.

That is a good question. Sampler channels with a sample in them have a section on the front page. This section contains the name of the sample loaded and some file options. This is on the top left of the first page of the sampler channel. If you hover your mouse over the name of the sample it will tell you the filepath in the top left message window under the “file” “edit” “add” drop-down menus. To the right of the sample name there is a load sample option which takes you to the folder the sample exists in. With those things in mind… whether or not a sampler channel with a missing channel will tell you the filepath or let you locate the folder via the “load sample” option is unknown to me.

Another thing that happens is at times when I open a project some of the samples are RED🟥and I can't seem to find where that sample is. Can you give me some advice. Thank You

Hey, Your samples that are turning red and the audio clips that are featured in this video act the same exact way when not found. The solution should be the same as stated at 0:21 and forward. If you don't know where the files are, set a folder (in the location described in the video) to be your computers C: drive. This may take a long time to open the project, but it will guarantee that if the files exist on your computer they will load. If they don't, then either the names of the files themselves have changed or the samples were deleted somehow off your computer. At that point I'm not quite sure how to help. If you do manage to get the files to load, follow the steps in the video at 1:22 and forward. This will show you what folder the samples are in. After you find them remove the C: drive folder we made within FL Studio (if you don't then you will have long load times whenever you open FL Studio) and then replace the C: drive folder you just deleted with the folder your samples are in (the ones you just found by using the steps from 1:22 and forward). Besides the info above I'm not sure how else I'd be able to help. Generally, samples become lost when you change file names, move file folders, or delete files. Hope this info was helpful. Thanks for watching and engaging!

Am trying to locate an audio that in my desktop so that I can bring it to my playlist as an audio clip. But I can't find some of the audio I have right there going through FL studio. How do I view all my audio like this?
@ScaleAudio

I’m not 100% sure I understand your question but if it’s on your desktop you should be able to drag it from there to you playlist. If you want to see your desktop in your browser on the left hand side of fl studio you’ll need to add your desktop to the folders list that I show in this video.

@@ScaleAudio it's not the dragging that's actually the problem. But I can't find some of my music that I wanna drag to FL studio. Some are there while some are not

@@gabrielhisown159 what file types are the files that aren’t working? Are they .mp3? And the ones that are working are .wav I’m assuming?

@@gabrielhisown159 I know that FL Studio doesn’t like MP3’s. If the files are not MP3 then it most likely doesn’t like what they are. WAV files are the way to go to avoid the most issues.

I feel like it's gotten worse in the last year. TOns of projects cant find sounds and I have to manually relocate and it still has issues even after adding the folders.

Thanks. I don't get the missing sample message in the start. I'm missing sample loaded into the FL sampler (not playlist). The sample button is red, and I have renamed the channel button, so I don't know what the filename of the sample is. Is there a way to find out what the name of the sample is? I'm running FL 12 (don't ask why, hehe).

Check your backups in the backup folder of the browser to see if you have an older project with the original sample name. If you renamed it I don’t quite know what to tell you. In the sampler wrapper there should be a section at the top left of the first page that looks like a folder. If you right click it a history of opened files may pop up. You can also try the folder with little branches if it’s there. This is supposed to open the file in your browser. Though your files not there anymore it may open the original file path if it lets you 🤷♂️ not sure. Without knowing the original file name it’s kind of hard to say.

And setting a new folder to be your C drive as stated in this video didn’t work? Because it doesn’t matter if it’s sampler or a playlist clip. Your project should still search for project files from those folders (at least to my knowledge).

You bet. One drive is can definitely be a pain. FL Studio recommends avoiding using it if you can. I actually switched my fl studio files out of my one drive completely. If you decide that’s something you’re interested in you can do it from the file or folder settings tab.

I would check to make sure latency compensation is set properly in the mixer. You could try turning off all of your effects and see if that resolves it. If it does, you can go through them 1 by 1 until you find the culprit. I've also had days where I spent way too long on a track and came back and felt that way due to the fatigue from working on it so long.

@@ScaleAudio yeh thank you il have a look and I have a bounced copy that is all in time but when I open the flp it’s all over the place, I always save a file keep that running and then open the saved file in a new window and check it to make sure it’s all good and it was, very strange 😂 that’s for the reply though.
