Great video Rhys, l use the red apps "blood worm" a lot especially this time of year it is probably the most successful way I have of catching trout.

Great lure I used them at chatton trout lakes in Northumberland I had 16 trout lost as many the olive one seemed to work better on a floating line a cross the wind pulling back fast

Rhys I tie a pink worm with legs made from a pink and orange barred rubber which I think is a silli legs material, or maybe something I got for pike flies. Fluo pink body, works well pulled quickly in the top couple of feet, or sink and draw. Not so well under a bung for this one where I find black works well.

Hahaha. Watched this last weekend and fished them on four outings on our syndicated loch this week 6 -5 -10 -3. So average of 6 per outing. Maybe not record breaking until you see the amount of 0s in the catch record. That's with a red one, waiting for more flexifloss to show up.

As with any form of lure fishing, a sudden burst of speed will often induce a strike from a following fish. As stated, don't slow down or stop. For pike that don't take using this technique, I would let the lure drop below the fish, and lift it back up. This can induce savage takes, in inches of water against the bank, and I don't see why it wouldn't work for trout.

Great video. One thing that confuses me though is how a 12 foot leader with the worm would fish. Surely off a very slow retrieve it would still sink considerably? Or is this fly really that light (unlike a squirmy?)
@RhysFishes
2 жыл бұрын
Apps are relatively light but like anything, it does depend on what hook you use, the length of the worm itself amongst other things. An inch and a half either side on a size 10 hook is my preference and that's based largely on the original (don't change what's not broken)

Hi , on the floating line what type and length of leader do you use a tapered leader or a single diameter line ?

Single diameter, length depends on wind direction and what you're comfortable with 👍

Worms will work even on overwintered fish. Its just a case of finding the depth. Alternatively look at the winter natural approach video 👍
