I switched out my 33’s for 35’s 6 months ago. My mileage went from 15.8mpg to 14mpg. You will definitely want to regear it. After two months I was over it so I went with 4:56. Now I got back most of my drivability. Enjoy!

Awesome, right on. Yeah I could barely stand the gearing on 33s. Going even shorter than 4.56 because of all the weight on my rig. Stoked to get that drivability back!!

@Dirty-D

@@alonzokincaid1362 bro it is pricey, that is why most people don’t do it. I paid about $1350 for the gear setup and around$850 to install. Believe it or not that is a pretty good price seeing how labor cost are high to do this.

Also take into consideration to go with skinny tires or pizza cutters. Yeah they may not look as asthetically pleasing like wide tires but you’re gonna get way better performance off road.
@lexus_offroad_adventures
Жыл бұрын
I’m coming from 255/80 Falken wildpeaks. Loved my pizza cutters! I disagree, however that you’d get way better performance off road with them. More like, you’d get more fuel efficiency on road with the same performance off road as with a wider tire. You still have the same vehicle weight and rubber compound, but are concentrating it on a smaller traction patch with pizza cutters, which increases the pressure per square inch, and helps with efficiency, but it doesn’t necessarily equate to better performance overall.

nice job man! I'd highly encourage you to trim the top of the rear wheel wells before you go trailing and even the cladding on the door. when you tuck, the tire will push on the cladding and pop it off

Thanks for covering this. Been subbed for a while now. I have the exact same rig, with the same size tires. Lots of trimming. Wish I would’ve gone with a 3” min lift instead of my OME 2”. Alas. Game changers on the trail though. One question for you though: what are you doing about the washer fluid reservoir? It’s going to get damaged if we’re ever at full compression and full left turn lock, which is rare, but still.
@lexus_offroad_adventures

For the washer reservoir I’ve seen some people get generic reservoirs on eBay and put it up in the engine bay. If it becomes a problem for me I’ll probably try that out. Probably looks cleaner too because that big ole thing is ugly under there haha

If you put a 4" lift. would you still have to do all that cutting?
@lexus_offroad_adventures
9 ай бұрын
A 4” lift would not be advisable with a 120 chassis vehicle. With IFS, any lift you do just takes away from your down-travel in the front and also reduces your track-width, making it unstable. 3” +- is the most you want to do without compromising performance. And yes, all this cutting is necessary for 35s. I still rub in places when I’m fully articulated, stuffing the tire in the fender well and turning…

@lexus_offroad_adventures

It’s tough to say. It depends on a whole bunch of factors like tire width, wheel offset, wheel spacers, etc. you may be able to get away with kinda bending the upper fender out of the way a bit. Those splash guard mounting tabs will probably catch the tire though. The good thing is you’ll have plenty of clearance to street drive the car and drive it up on ramps to see where it may hit

Do you need any mods for drivetrain? Driveshaft control arms knuckles or any weak links in running 35’s
@lexus_offroad_adventures
Жыл бұрын
Answer is: it depends. For me, I’m re-gearing to 4.88 gears (stock is 3.73) and ARB locking differentials soon. Weak points include the CV axles in the front (same with every Toyota)and the 8.0” rear end. But if you have freshly setup gears (backlash increases over time and can cause excessive load on the diff as it gets out of spec on these old 100k+ mile trucks) and use common sense, it should be good. If you don’t plan on re-gearing and just wanna run 35s as is, it’s definitely do-able as I showed in the video. This is a totally stock drivetrain right now and it’s impressive how much grip it has. But I’m pretty careful and have a lot of mechanical sympathy.
