Good and useful video...but I guess I would use a socket set when it came to winding in a coach screw...

Adding that "rubble" to the bottom makes removal [of the post] and digging an absolute difficult HELL the next time around. Do not do that!

I have been working as a fencer for ages and we always put rubble at the bottom, it adds stability and is cost effective in relation to the amount of post mix you use. Any concrete breaker should break it out quite easy.

For God's sake get a socket set. That was painful. What did you remove the rhizomes with.......pliers?

Before you buy these, check if the person that put up the fence concreted in the posts. If they did you may not be able to dig right next to the post.

You need the right tools to break up any existing concrete. I use a huge, heavy duty, chisel digging bar.

Thanks for the video. I'm putting a new fence - would you use 75mm width spurs with 100mm timber posts? Or would I need 100mm spurs?

Judging by appearance of the lag bolts, these bolts are galvanized, not HDG as required. I can imagine how these lag bolts look now…..

@@pauli1968 Did you use Hot Deep Galvanized lag bolts? If you did, then they should not rust. They look like new, indeed. This is what I used.

@@VasilyKiryanov A lot of people prefer the look of wooden posts to concrete and its cheaper. A treated wooden post will last 10-15 years and most customers are happy with that. Also when we fit treated posts we give it extra life by painting the section that goes into the ground with a bitumen paint which makes it last years longer.

One thing I didn't do, which I can advise you on! After you've put in the post fix concrete, get a blunt piece of wood and bash the concrete down. So it get into all the nooks and crannies. Then fill in with dirt. I´m no expert, but did a good job. The hard part is digging the hole deep enough. It´s hard if you haven't the proper shovel tool.
