What about the ridge - there's a gap in the wood so does the rubber just hover over it unsupported?
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
24 күн бұрын
Yes, the membrane is fine filled straight over the top. If your gap is large, you coukd full with expanding foam and cut back, or fill with a slither of timber, but my gap was 2mm at most. Hope that helps.

I have this same kit from Rubber4Roofs. Got it last October but there hasn't been a decent break in the weather, rain or temperature wise, for me to do it. However, the weather is good next Friday and Saturday so will do it then. The drip/gutter trim doesn't fill me with confidence though. The water might not make it over the lip of the trim and could just run behind the front-facing trim (i.e. between it and the rubber). Time will tell. Appreciate the upload - thanks!

I was going to fit a metal roof, but seeing this I think I'll be going for rubber, especially when you mentioned the 50 year guarantee and how easy it is compared to metal. One question I have is, should I add extra to the measurements put on the website or do they give enough extra on each side? Great video by the way.
@holyjoemuttley1

...also, my bare roof is tongue and groove, will this matter?
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE

I'd allow a bit extra in your measurements. They will likely cut what you ask for. Hope that helps.
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE

Tongue and grove will definitely leave lines in the rubber and won't provide a continuous bond. I'm sure it would work in that it'd be waterproof but I'd recommend using osb or plywood sheets under the rubber.

@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE

Personally, I think epdm is a great product. The fact its one peice leaves no room for installation error. Anything that requires sealing, or binding together on site always leaves potential for leaks. As long as it's not punctured it really is good stuff. Best of luck with it whichever material you use 👍

Easily the best epdm video I've watched and I've watched loads now. Thank you. My shed roof is T&G. Do I still use the water based adhesive on the main deck and contact adhesive around the edges? One comment I saw said to use contact adhesive on the whole of the roof for T&G roofs.
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
3 ай бұрын
I've never done it to t&g roof, but I would say just around the edge would be fine. The contact adhesive would be difficult to use all over as it's very sticky and less forgiving. Hope that helps and best of luck with it 👍

Isn't the trim on the from and back meant to sit on top of the edge of the rubber, which redirects water down to the gutter? That's how the edging for mine works (I hope!)

I'll be reffering back to this in a few months time when the sun's out, currently I have a miniscule leak which appears only with heavy rain but have my rubber roof kit ready to install. Couple of questions I'm asking myself though, should I treat the wood roof (good timber) before putting the rubber roof on. And should I leave it a little loose and not too tight, to avoid the rubber shrinking and splitting potentially? Great video
@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry about treating wood covered by the rubber as it is fully water tight. I would stick the rubber straight to roof. It's quite flexible so will shrink and expand a bit but you don't want to be left with a wrinkly roof! Let me know how you get on. Best of luck with it 👍
