I’ve been fitting 30 years. Never gripped risers , always turned back . Great demo , always 10 ways to skin a cat . As a side note, wear a aerosol mask when spray gluing . I worked in NZ for years and we always use PPE . Spray adhesive is cancerous 🇮🇪👌

So what is the benefit of going up vs. going down the stairs??? Cuz I swear I heard before in a diff vid y'all did that the pros normally go up and is better for some reason but harder to do as a diy'er?? Maybe I heard wrong but still I would like to know if there is a benefit for one way or another. Thxs

We can fit both ways, the bottom up is a lot harder and the difference is minimal, that’s why we teach this way 😊😉

Nice job well explained, but please wear pads, your knees will thank you in 30 years. Now retired but was doing remedials for a short period and some of the work you see turned out in new houses is more shocking than ever.

Try living where I am in Germany, at least the part I live anyway. I mean nice carpet underlay? You should be so lucky as I cannot find it anywhere and even the big diy stores here look puzzled when I ask if they have it, its all that crap thin stuff for laminate, they said that is carpet underlay lol. Oh yea whilst I am at it with the rant, skirting boards? Nah not here, they stick plastic on the wall about the same height as a skirting board and it has a gap in it with removable double sided sticky tape to then wack and stick a strip of the same carpet you laid on the floor on to it, that is your f in skirting and it looks cack as hell. Same with tiled floors as well, half a tile against the wall is the skirting. I have however found great wooden skirting boards luckily here. What else? mmmmm Oh yea undercoat for gloss work, they look at me like im stupid and ask why do you need undercoat, seriously it is ridiculous here lol I have found t but it took some searching and lots of confused people to find some. Curtains? They love a bare window and everyone staring through here, no nets nothing and the curtains most do have are see through! Anyway rant over lol. Great video, ordering underlay online from the Uk, paying shit loads for the post but left with no choice, and am looking forward to laying carpets through my entire house and thanks to awesome people like this who take the time to explain in a fantastic way how to do these things, hopefully I will do a good job!

Stairs look good, but if there's a lip they should be upholstered. That's why the lip was put on the raw wood by the builder in the first place

Note: its not bending the pins as you wrongly state, otherwise the carpet would come off, but engaging the carpet backing onto the pins!

Better not to put gripper up the rise of the step imo the more gripper you use the more likely you will be to put the back of the step through

Nice informative video…my carpet fitter mate uses gripper over riser method and it looks lots neater imo. My only criticism is grippers should never be nailed onto risers only screwed, as the hammering can cause the riser to come off at the back of the tread and they’re a nightmare to fix 👍🏼
