Yes definitely agree that some level of general discomfort is guaranteed with long days and heavy pack. And definitely adjust your straps through the day as needed! Interesting to learn the the straps don't need to be symmetrical length... I always did that for some reason. Cheers!

OUTSTANDING video, I greatly appreciate the way you showed (not just said) HOW to put the pack on and adjust the straps (in what order, as well as how much to cause a proper fit. Thank You.

Very helpful and great solutions for getting something like a real pack load. Also, it appears that your cat has no respect for you nor, presumably, for humanity. Also also I already wanted to be your friend but when you start throwing out the “groovy” and such it makes my KZitem fandom fantasy complete. Such a good thing for REI to be supporting. Makes me proud to be a member.

I just got a new REI flash55 in olive oil and between this video the REI virtual pack fitting appointmen i had and your other video on how to measure for a pack yourself . i got it so my pack is very comfortable . i used three cans of French Canadian pea soup and a can of crisco shortening and a hudson's bay wool blanket. i got a two thumbs up for the fit from Carlos. so far i love the pack. i accually found out that i can use the straps that hold the lid on to secure the top brain pocket to the front and use it as a chest pocket. i find the top lid works well as a chest pack. Great infrmative video Miranda

Nice, Miranda. Some really great tips and as I’ve just purchased an Osprey Atmos I now know I have to empty the larder for cans to get the fit right! Genius! 🙂 Great video editing too and really easy and interesting to watch. Good job 👍🙂

"Carrying a backpack is less comfortable than not carrying a backpack." Got a chuckle out of that one. Soft and grumpy people tend not to be outdoorsy, or not for long. I suspect this is also why people who work for REI are often super chill, peak outdoorsy-ness. I'm comfortable just wandering around the store even if I don't have anything specific to get, there and home improvement stores. More than stuff, it is a means to possibilities, to adventure.

Funny thing is, for her comments about comfort, Miranda straps on a backpack that is twice the size and weight of this one in another video and looked even more comfortable.

If, somehow, you’re not a fan of campfire patina use something like Cameo or Barkeepers Friend when you get home. For me and my camp cookware I figure if the outside isn’t rubbing off on me or my pack the. it’s sufficiently clean plus I don’t look like noob.

I need some help how do I get rid of the space between my shoulder and top part of the strap? You referred to it as "puckering" but its just like a triangular space....what if your shoulder strap won't lie flat on your shoulder? Miranda heeeeelp

The sad thing is if your on a budget you can't buy a brand new pack from REI and find the fitting instructions online like the nice pack I picked up from a yard sale it's a few years old and a discontinued model so finding any info on it is next to impossible.
@donnajean72

A different video on fitting a pack said there should be a gap between the shoulder straps and the top rear of the shoulder. They said the standard rule is two fingers of space. I didn't see the space when you fitted yours. What are your thoughts on that? I think it might have been Hike Oregon's video, I can't remember now.
@rei
4 жыл бұрын
Great question. The way I learned was that you should be able to slide two fingers between your straps and the top of your shoulder as an indicator that you don't have too much weight resting on your shoulders. I'd say be cautious of intentionally leaving a gap, as this can create a pain point on the front of your shoulders. It's definitely a balancing act! - Miranda
