This 20+ year old deck’s handrail*, balusters and posts had long ago rotted to the point of being unsafe and then to the point of nearly just collapsing. That’s when I got the call to check it out. It’s not uncommon, so we made a video.
In this video, you will see:
- Demolition
- Time-tested sure fire tools I like to use
- A post to band joist deck post connection the internet loves to hate that I find to be an accurate, rock-solid way to set deck posts quickly and efficiently by yourself
- A deck detail I hate. When you see the bugs crawling out of it, you’ll see why
- Forever Juice…a not-new product I use for deck repair that we think is rock solid-PostProservative
- What I think are some simple, elegant details. I’m hardly next level but these strategies seem to work
- Adding fascia with a material that the more we use it, the more we want to use it-Acre by Modern Mill
- And, lastly, boring jargon. It’s not a handrail. It’s a guardrail. If I posted such on Google, you’d never see us
