Looked this up because it happened to us when we were bowling.

Thanks for the info, old man at my job told me to fix this by reversing the clutch and holding up the lever, well i was sitting there just going at it forever realising the deck wasnt moving, i had done it before no issue so it was a real headscratcher. Didnt tell me that you had to flip that little release switch up first.

Proper Protocol for clearing a Deck Jam is as follows. 1. Shut the Pinsetter off with the circuit breaker. 2. Grab a Lock out box and unplug pinsetter and lock cord in box. 3. Engage the clutch on the pinsetter. 4 While Gently lifting up on the holding hook Rotate the Motor to Gearbox Belt Towards the 7pin side of machine. Once deck lower sufficiently to clear jammed pins. Once pins are cleared from the deck removing of pins in the chutes is optional but not required unless the black out is caused by the moving deck failure to shift. 5. Climb out of machine and Then plug back in and restore power to pinsetter. Run the pinsetter for one or two cycles and observe machine in action. Editors note. If you pull up too hard on the holding hook you will throw the first and second ball micro switch out of adjustment so you only need to pull up slowly on it til you hear a click

The "reset button" is actually the cycle solenoid, but when you pull the solenoid inwards, it acts like a reset, as it triggers the machine. The reset buttons energize the solenoid.

I had the Deck Jam problem happen a lot to me as a Bowler when I was bowling back in High School in the 1990's. Great video to explain how they shut off the machine and manually lower the deck to empty the basket !

Tip: You don’t need to clear out all the pins from deck just throw the miss fallen pins to the pit or just straighten up the pins that are already in the chutes.

from what you describe it sounds more like a ball bringing a pin up as the ball goes up the lift rods. there is an easy fix for this. installing a pin-deflector cord stops pins from going up with the ball. it is a small bracket which snaps onto the 7 pin side and you attach a elastic bungee cord to the hook and the other end through one of the existing holes in the rear frame. while working at amf, we averaged 2 pins that went down the subway per week. after installing the cords, it dropped to less than one per month

Isn’t it a little dangerous to be wandering around the top of a pin spotter with that long what looks like lanyard keychain hanging out of your pocket?

Your lucky you have not been pulled into the belts with all the loose clothing and key strap that is dangling from your pocket. Practice safety first!!!!

when lowering the deck, how essential is it to hold up that lever? I didnt realise it was there and I used the belts hooked to the wheels to lower it. Thats not bad right, its just more tiring? If its bad i want to know

What state is this elks at please?
@robertmiller9207
Actually that wasn't a deck jam. That was pins on top of the deck that caused the turret frame to lift and open the turret safety switch to avoid snapping aluminum turret frame or cause other damage. FYI, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY PUT THE DAMMM ELECTRICAL BOX COVERS BACK ON.

How do you fix a lane that starts tossing pins out of the back of the machine where the pins that are being brought up from the bottom that are suppose to be released to the belt going up the top of the machine to the basket starts jamming up and then it tries to take extra pins in the notches that is already holding pins as it takes them up to the top. I cannot explain the problem that well, but I seen it happen a lot when I had family that use to fix the lanes when I lived on a air force base until 1992.
