Helped us get the dishwasher back into service the night before Thanksgiving! Yeah! Thank you! Easy to understand and your examples are good. Some of the best DIY video I've seen, and you spoke clearly with a lot of pauses. I really like watching an expert at work.

This was a really useful video Andrew. I appreciate your effort. I know this is an old post but maybe somebody will see this. The part with the round perforated stainless steel screen and the four blades is the chopper assembly. It is in line with the spray pump. There is a second pump, just to the right of the chopper that pumps the water out to the drain. The drain pump isn't visible but if you look at 4:07 in the video, the hole to the drain pump is directly underneath where the screwdriver is pointing. The two black rubber strips, visible at 4:15 are part of the sump check valve, which is located to the right of the drain hole, preventing the drain water from flowing back into the dishwasher. While the chopper doesn't do anything directly effecting the draining of the water, it does make the food particles smaller, which may help them flow out of the dishwasher better. The chopper is spring loaded. To remove/install the chopper, the blades, which aren't really very sharp, should be pulled away from the screen. This retracts the chopper axle away too, allowing you to install the part correctly. A pair of pliers or a screwdriver can be inserted between the chopper blades and the screen to retract it. Once you get good at it, you can even retract the blades with your fingers while you install/remove it. After installing the chopper assembly, remove whichever tool used, or release the blades if you used your fingers. When you release the blade, the axle snaps back against the end of the pump axle. Make sure to get the teeth fully engaged against each other or it might slip off or get chewed up. You have to look at it closely to verify the teeth are engaged. My dishwasher wasn't draining, leaving the entire bottom full of nasty water after it had been run. I found the rubber sump check valve, leading to the drain pump cavity was coated with mineral deposits (we have hard water) and dishwasher solution. I scraped all that off with a xacto knife, careful not to damage to the rubber. After cleaning the hole to the left of the check valve, I reinstalled the check valve. So far, it's draining everything from the dishwasher. My next step is to run some cleaning solution through the dishwasher. I'm still trying to figure out how to put that in so it will recirculate and not drain. I want to run the cleaning solution for an entire cleaning cycle to dissolve all the mineral deposits, dishwasher soap, etc. I may disconnect the drain pump electrical, start a dishwasher cycle, then after it's full of water, turn off the water valve. I don't know if this will work but it'll be my first attempt.

I had already checked everything you said including the disposal except the drain line leading to it. I re-cleaned everything the hose wasnt clogged but decided to turn the blades in the DW with a screwdriver & run the disposal again. This seems to happen a LOT with appliances bought from Lowes and Im pretty sure theyre selling B grade and below to consumers as weve had everything we buy from them tear up in less than 2 yrs and many times by the second use. After turning the food disposal blades & running it again it now works.

Just fyi, the “bits” you referred to are “screws”. The actual “bit” that fits in your screwdriver (not “torque wrench”) is a “Torx” T-20 and T-15. Hopefully this will keep some DIYer from getting the stink eye at the hardware store when he/she/it asks for these items. Also, thank you for mentioning that the plastic nut thingy that holds the bottom sprayer arm on is reverse-threaded. I broke the ears off of mine when I tried to loosen it in the direction any reasonable man would, and then had to wrestle the rest of it loose with channel-lock pliers. You said it quickly but I caught it!

Thank you so much for not avoiding the small white circle washer thing. Most people don't show that and I've a tough time remembering where exactly it fits and for so bravely showing the removal of that metal circle thing with the holes in it. Many folks say not to bother to remove it because it's hard to get it back in place. Thanks for the courage to deal with the gritty stuff.

I watched a few vids before finding yours and yours was the most helpful! Very user friendly and the angles were perfect. Im going to see if I can try and fix my dishwasher as it wont drain properly at the end of the cycle and Ive also noticed that when it does drain, the water is dirty. If I cant do it myself I will just get a plumber but Im going to try and tackle it myself first....

This was most excellent. One bit, I couldn't see exactly how the tab was pushed when you removed the housing to the garbage disposal you mentioned to use a screwdriver but I couldn't tell which way you moved the tab. I just lifted it from the other side where the screw had been and it came off easily! Great job on showing us how it was all done. My Whirlpool QuietPartnerIII had the same bottom configuration. Thanks!

How do you get the circular disc with the blade next to it back into its spot? I am sure there is a simple way, but I have yet to figure it out.
@rokazok
4 жыл бұрын
I pushed the spring down as far as I could towards the circular disc and used a pair of pliers to grip the other side. With the spring fully compressed, you can try to guide the white plastic gear in place so that when you loosen the pliers, it secures into place. The circular disc should sit in the groove. Then assemble the washer, blade, and cap.

Good video, Andrew, thanks. I think a jug of vinegar would be helpful in dissolving a lot of that "gunk" you show. (It seems to have a high calcium content...which vinegar works well on.) Oh, and in case anyone was confused, Andrew's using TORX drivers...not TORQUE drivers.

Are homeowners supposed to regularly clean that filter (and other parts) to avoid having problems? Sure is a lot of trouble if so. I can't even turn that first "nut" on the spray arm; I can't even hold it while turning the arm to loosen it. Thanks for the demonstration.
