In this video I walk through fixing an igniter on a Jenn Air gas cooktop.
Transcript:
All right guys so we got this 45 in Jenn air uh downdraft cooktop it's a gas cooktop uh when I was testing it out I'm not getting spark on a couple of the burner so uh we're going to actually change out some of the uh if you look when we do that so those two have spark this one has spark that one does not and these two do not either so what we are going to do is change out um some of the igniters the uh spark igniters I I'm drawing a blanket what these are called but these are actually uh what are up inside the burners right here so we're going to pull um these panels out these inserts they just pop out um so you can just pick up on one side slide it will come all the way out and then we're going to throw them on the bench and uh I'm going to actually pull them apart so we can can put the new igniters in them um and yeah one thing you can do to test um to see if these are the the problem that you're having let me see is put a screwdriver and be careful if you uh touch any of the frame when you're testing this um let's get it on ignite you can see those are going on that one's going on this one's not if you can put the screwdriver down next to it you can see it ignites so that's how we know we're getting power there same with this same with this so we're getting power there but the igniters are weak that's how we know that the igniters are bad so I'm going to go ahead and uh pull one apart and we will actually change that I'll show you guys how to do that all right guys so we have the burner um now that we are going to change out the igniter it looks like this so we're actually going to turn it upside down and there are I think six screws uh that we are going to have to remove you have two over here one down here on this end one on the top and then three more back on this side let me make sure yep you guys should be able to see that so you do not have to take these two off these two screws uh are just for the case you don't have to mess with those only the ones on the side so I'm going to go ahead and pop these off real [Music] quick all right all the screws are out of it let's go ahead and lift the top of it off if you just lift the whole thing we can pull this off and discard it for now and this is what we're dealing with this piece right here on the end make sure that you can see it will slide off it'll slide out of these two um um this is where the gas comes in those gas lines so if you pull it a little bit like that you can pop it off but before we do that cuz these is this this is the wires for the igniter right here you have one on each igniter you have to pull those off see that pull these off the the uh the ends of them and you might have to get a little screwdriver and it if it's uh if it's too tight so lift those up slide the end cap off like that actually this piece fell off right here which it just goes up on there and sits on top oh sorry I got it backwards like that so you can see both those in in caps but these are the igniter uh pieces that slide in for the insert uh makes contact here it goes through these wires into the igniter itself so now that I have this all the way off you can see we have the burners themselves so on this model to get these burners out you just have to turn them and I have to do I think I got to do this one first so if you just spin them a little bit you can drop them all the way through like that and then this one the same thing spin it and it will drop all the way through actually you know what before we do that I'm going to do something different so let's put it back in lift it back spin it how it goes and I'm going to disconnect the uh the igniter first uh while it's stable in here sometimes that's a little bit easier so I'm going to go ahead and unscrew the [Music] igniter and that's how it looks so you can see if you go down with it it cups in and that's how it goes in so um that's that one I'm going to go ahead and grab the new and we'll stick it in there and see if I can still get it lined up with without removing the uh the whole burner so here's the new igniter against the old igniter we're going to put it in and see if I can get it lined up it looks like it's lined up pretty good you can always we have it in there like that I can always flip this up and take a look and as you can see that right there it looks like it is in there pretty good pull it a little bit just to get it nice and tight so it's flush in there put that back down and let's put the screws back in it [Music] if you see we'll just push that in like that pull it out there's the old one here's the new one if you can put it in like this slide it in you want to make sure that that little uh ceramic coating you don't you want to make sure this isn't touching the actual burner that ceramic coating is uh is keeping it away so it has the ability to spark so you want to pull that through with your your finger
