I feel like I have a lisp but I don’t know what kind I have. It’s weird because when I talk air comes out of the right side of my mouth but not the left. My S’s also don’t sound slushy like your demonstrations. They sound kind of muffled and soft, I also only hear the lisp when I’m saying words with multiple s sounds in them. This makes me really self conscious and I hate talking because of it. I’m 17, is it possible for me to fix this problem?

check to see what your lips are during during productions - ALSO, after I typically target words with one of the sounds in it, such as "see" and the client can master it, the NEXT step is the 2 sound productions such as "see-saw" because it is common to produce one quickly and the second one incorrectly, often just due to habit. so keep on practicing these specific words and work slowly and then increase the speed! you can do it! let me know!

Hey, every time I try to make the "S" sound, the tip of my tongue immediately goes to the back of my top front teeth, similar positioning to when pronouncing the letter "L". Is this the correct positioning, and if not, where should it be?
@TheSpeechScoop

it should be in the middle of where your teeth meet - but to overcorrect, which I would recommend because your tongue is used to going UP, I would recommend pushing it down to the bottom!

Hi there. I really have difficulty getting the S and Z sound right. But I am confused if its lateral lisp or not. Because if I clear my mouth from saliva then I was able to produce a pretty fair S sound. But I think the problem is with my whole speech. I sound like there's a lot of saliva is in my mouth. Do you know what the exact problem is? I wanna sound better when I sing but my speech problem restricts me to do my audition. Please help.
@TheSpeechScoop
4 жыл бұрын
try doing a "hard swallow" before speaking, and swallowing often. Some people produce more saliva than others, just naturally. The more you practice with the non-slurpy sound and make the corrections as needed - that habit should form with correct tongue placement to help with the excess saliva

I am 26 years old, and till now I thought that the proper way make the /s/ sound is by blowing air from my right back teeth. I am trying to fix this, but i got dispaired, I 'm not sure how to use my tongue and blow air from the front teeth. I mean, shall I have my tongue straight or the tip of the tongue must touch the back of my upper frond teeth? Or it must touch the alveolar ridge? Till now. I only managed to produce a /sh/ sound, or maybe a slurpy /s/, I am not sure. When im trying to record myself speaking, it sounds like my /s/ is clear, but when im trying to speak with this "new" (for me) way, the others say that I 'm talking weirdly and not clearly.
@TheSpeechScoop
4 жыл бұрын
It does not need to be touching the alveolar ridge or the teeth, just very close to both! Also use whichever way works best for you! Not everyone produces sounds the same way! Some people (depending on dialect) consistently use “sh” for /s/ & it is considered correct! Whatever works best for YOU!
