You can buy the yellow plastic gas can vents on Ebay. You can get 20 of them for like $6 or less. Drill the same half inch hole and push it in. Easy. The valve stem is WAYYYY over thinking it. However, I was able to reuse my old Gott lock ring which had the right threads and just put the new spout through the old lock ring. It isn't a perfect fit, though. Each time I fill the can I have to be careful to carefully align the new spout because the old lock ring's hole is slightly larger than the new spout's base. If I don't carefully align it when I screw it back on it will leak big time.

BUREAUCRATS !!! Anybody who had a part in designing these valves should be forced to stand at the side of the road in 110- or 20-degree weather holding the can and valve with three hands while the gas trickles into the tank. (But I will take the advice about removing the "safety" device. Thanks for that especially.) I drilled a 1/4-inch hole in the top of one and put in a toggle bolt which I would loosen to pour the gas. Actually gave up on that and just use a bulb siphon hose with the can sitting above the tank. Takes a lot longer, but in inclement weather, you can sit in the vehicle and wait while it drains. The siphons are available at dollar stores and big box stores.for about $3 or less.

@Akula114

The tire valve stem trick is the coolest thing since sliced bread! Dang good idea! One thing a SERIOUSLY ADVISE ALL VIEWERS... if you do not have it already in the pouring spout, cut a disc of window screen, use an old wire mesh aerator from a water faucet or something, and put it somewhere in the spout like what you thought was the little brass debris filter they used to put in all gas cans. Here's the secret... that little piece of wire mesh won't filter out the twigs and crap that shouldn't be in your gas can, to begin with. It is there to SAVE YOUR LIFE. That little mesh is a flame arrestor. It will stop a flame from entering the neck of that spout and DETONATING your gas can. That impossible-to-use new neck that is the reason for this very good video, to begin with, is there because otherwise smart people were bursting into flames like a Buddhist monk festival in Vietnam. You see, an open flame, even a tiny one you may not see in full daylight will follow those fumes right up the spout and explode the gasoline (or moonshine) inside. Those damn new handles don't have anything to do with the EPA or wasting energy or anything. They are made so if a flame starts to come up the spout, and you let go of the handle, that little button closes a valve to keep you and anything around you from looking like a sack of Ol' Diz charcoal. The maker of that gas can... Blitz... doesn't exist anymore because they decided to save a nickel or less per can and take out that little "filter." The result was tragic. I personally worked with three victims of gas can explosions caused by that smart move. These were good guys. One was even a volunteer firefighter, and all three had similar incidents that left them HORRIBLY BURNED. One, after 2-3 years had already run up over 20 million dollars in medical expenses. Another was divorced by his wife who just couldn't take it. Of course, after a lot of therapy, he was able to visit his two little girls. And by the way, the therapy was for the little girls, not him. Corporate greed brought on those damn new safety spouts and killed the company who tried to save a buck. So before anyone goes on about tree-huggers, government regulations, and the E.P.A., keep in mind who really created the problem. Somebody trying to make a few extra bucks while making you into something your kids are afraid to look at.

@Akula114

@@roymadison5686 It's hard to wrap your mind around, but it's true... the actual figure at the time (about 6-7 years ago) was around 23 million, but when you count in the more than half a year at the JMS Burn Center and the Burn and Reconstructive Centers of America hospitals in Augusta, GA, plus the other hospitals, medevacs, etc., you can start to see how it adds up. The difficult and expensive thing about burns so severe is fighting infection. A severe burn sort of "cauterizes" itself, but you have to start peeling that eschar off the body so new flesh can grow underneath. This is a repetitive process and is just as painful as you would imagine... if not more so. You can only keep a patient in an artificial coma for so long, and the tissue regrowth takes many months, if not years. And remember, that dead, burned skin doesn't grow or slough off like your undamaged skin. Plus, you've destroyed the epidermis and other outer layers of skin, so there is nothing to grow into new, impermeable flesh. Bacteria easily get in and your bodily fluids constantly drip out. So your left fighting a battle with an essentially open human body constantly dripping fluids on one hand, and a nice pulp of living, exposed blood vessels, nerve endings, subcutaneous fat and muscle (that which hasn't been burned or scraped off) all waiting for the next opportunistic bacterium to move in and start a family. Of course, it's not like anyone ever caught an infection at a hospital, right? If you've been hospitalized for anything from an injury to an illness look at your bill and see where aspirin cost $11 per 325mg, then consider the amount of equipment, medical supplies like bandages, cadaver and pigskin (used for temporary skin cover), not to mention catheters, bandages, syringes, and all the other non-reusable implements used to keep the poor suffering bastard alive. How much would a hospital charge for all those specialized supplies and the equipment, knowing there is no cap on what they can bill the insurance companies. Oh, and we haven't even talked about doctors, specialists, burn unit nurses, registered nurses, LPNs and other personnel. Then we've got to start talking about a life-care planner if the burn patient is "lucky" enough to get through all this trauma. The specialized equipment he'll need for the rest of his life, medicines, antibiotics, pain-killers, wound coverings and elastic faceplates so the scar tissue can at least sort of be shaped like a human being. Do you begin to see how all this stuff adds up? I got sick and had a 5 week stay in a non-specialized unit at a hospital and ran up well over $60,000 worth of charges. Imagine how much it would cost to keep a human-sized wound alive for a year and a half. That is some serious change.

It seems like it is a good idea, BUT it isn't. I have done it that way several years ago. The problem is after some time the gas effects the valve stem rubber and it swell's up on the inside and falls out. Some of the old valve stems I had worked longer but the new kind used in the video will swell and fall out fairly quick. I converted all my new gas container's and now I had to replace the stems with 1/2" removable plastic plugs. I haven't been able to find valve stems that will hold up to gas. It doesn't even work for Diesel. They swelled up as well. If they swell and fall out in your car trunk or pickup now you have gas all over. I was lucky, they decided to let loose when removing the cap to pour gas out. Do it the correct way and buy the plastic vents.

@@XEGTDodgeMagnum I know Viton and Polypropelyne will hold up to bleach. Not sure about petroleum though. Nice - someone that doesn't call this "gas" or "gasoline". 100 million people calling something by the wrong name doesn't make petroleum "gasoline", it just makes those 10 million people inaccurate. I have an old plastic fuel container that is probably about as old as I am (almost 50), and it is still my favorite. It has a built in valve in the back that I can easily put my finger over to control the flow and minimize any spill/mess. I saw a 14 gallon tank that had a plastic nozzle similar to ones you find at the station pumps, but cheap plastic. Not sure if it has a release valve on the back end or not? I found it on Amazon. The county I live in just stopped stations from selling ethanol free fuel to reduce the carbon foot print, which does nothing but force us to drive further (and burn more fuel) to buy this elsewhere, then come back and still burn the ethanol free fuel in the county. I just don't understand why stations cannot sell this, but places like Lowe's and Home Depot can still sell this in small containers? So the end result is doing nothing but increasing the carbon foot print by driving further to obtain this fuel for my small engines. Politicians can be such morons.

Cans can build up a lot of pressure. I have one that blew apart several plastic, screw on vent caps. You are better off with the ebay hinged press in vent caps. They just pop open to relieve pressure. I would not try to contain the pressure with a metal cap. Who knows what might rupture insead of the cap. I just leave my old screw on cap loose so it can bleed off excess pressure. A tire valve stem cap might be too snug a fit for that.

Great Video. Loved the commentary also. I have been through this aggravation with revised thread design, spilling gas, etc. I have also found the manufacturers know very little about plastic design. Those caps have two sharp corners on the inner diameters and a thin wall between them so they crack and/or break easily. This is just another example of our government taking on the really important issues of our time - "gas can spouts". Next month maybe they can come up with a water hose nozzle that doesn't work. Or toilets that won't flush- (oh, wait-they already did that one).

There is so much joy in overcoming stupid design. I remember bypassing my the "child proof" caps on my grandmothers arthritis medication for her when I was 8 years old. To be clear, I opened the bottle FOR her because her hands hurt. I'm 50 now and have been taking pleasure in bypassing crap like this ever since. Thanks for your video.

Most newer med bottles have childproof caps, but they can be flipped over to make them not be child proof. Just flip the cap. There should be threads on the top of the cap so they can be put on as child proof or adult easy...if that makes sense. There are vids on youtube about it.

@Robert Langley: DO NOT put a valve stem in your can as a vent, the valve caps crack in a few weeks and the ethanol melts the rubber valve stem and it will eventually crumble into fuel line clogging debris. There are fuel tolerant vents available online and at just about every automotive flea market I have attended for the past 5 years. They cost less than $1 each, do not stick out 1.5” for you to stick yourself when wresting a full can.

I usually watch vids on 2 times the speed to get through all the babbling and get the point in half the time. Works great. However, I slowed this one down to normal because you are a no bullshit guy...straight to the point! I like that. Also, this is probably the best mod I have seen as of yet for the modern cans. We are literally going backwards with simple tech like gas cans. The valve stem is brilliant mod for flow. I cant believe these newer tanks dont have a vent! Holding a 5 gallon can for 10 minutes to fill a generator or anything for that matter is ridiculous. I have a half dozen gas cans of various sizes and they are all a pain in the ass. Im going to do this mod for sure. Thanks for the post man. Good day

Look into buying a water distiller , drink 1 gallon per day which will flush your body of inorganic minerals, VOC's (Fluoride) & heavy metals which. The body can only assimilate organic minerals. Inorganic minerals build up in the body causing arthritis, arteriosclerosis & PROSTATE issues. If you have discipline and avoid processed sugar, artificial sweeteners, toxic American dairy (Toxic because of pasteurization & other crap they put in it). After a few months you will notice huge changes in health including your hair will revert back to the color of your youth. Pure zero ppm water is kind of like the fountain of youth, it will clean your arteries & heavy metals that have accumulated in the brain from vaccines & chemtrails. (My buddy is a pilot who knows all about chemtrails sprayed upon us by the military) The world is run by oligarchy families of banker royals who are orchestrating Famine, Disease, WW3 & FEMA Death camps. Truth is stranger than fiction !
