Well done. You’re a good dad. I’ve found that with my two daughters they can save big bucks just by knowing how to change their cars’ air and cabin filters. Simple tasks they now know how to do that shops would charge big bucks to do for them during routine oil changes.

That's awesome about your daughters. I've got another daughter in Charleston who wants me to show her how to change her oil next time she's up--now that she knows how much it costs to have a reputable shop do it :-). Makes a big difference when they're paying for it themselves. Thanks for the comment, Terry!

Cheap amazon $100 00 distbutors will work but it will idle high at 1000 rpm- not 750 and the check engine light will go on because theae cheap distbutora are missing ( maybe not pinned correctly) the crank Shaft position sensor reading to the pcm/exm... You will get on solid year out of the cheapie ... Based on experience

Resoldering it will likely only last for a while, the circuit board is a style that is affected by moisture. The rust on the steel mount was similar to mine and i discovered a leak was allowing water to get down there, keep the area damp. If you have this issue, you may want to look for a leak as well.

In my case I went through the usual suspects: the cowl/blower leak, the cowl area side drainage, and the door seals, but it wasn't any of those. I got replacement door seals from Thailand via ebay and thought that was it, but no dice. This particular leak that gets into that area seems to be the one that comes from the roof trim rail channels. But I am scared to remove those trim rails because I haven't found replacements anywhere and I am afraid they will break when being removed.@@FamilyFriendlyDIY

Edited: There was so much tension on the metal, I figured with the heat it produces, it would only fail again ... but it would have made a great experiment. --- Oops, I thought I was replying to the Honda Fit Blower resistor which had a bimetal plate with a lot of tension on it. Regarding the fuel pump relay, I actually did resolder the board on one in a '99 Honda Accord. It solved the problem for a while, but it returned after a couple of years. My daughter sold it before I had a chance to look at what had become of the board.

Put a good ball of solder on it, Also you might want to replace relay connecting to the solder, with a new one, just to make sure isn't partially burned at least. For the Camera get a head mount. My 2001 CRV often dies at a stoplight or stop sign, but only in the afternoon when it's really hot like right now. I can definitely hear the fuel pump relay clicking on, but wondering if in the afternoon it's so hot that it's not working properly... I usually have to turn the AC off to keep it from dying

It could be the fuel pump itself. They give more trouble when hot due to increased electrical resistance. Here's a video on that. --- it's a cinch to change because you can access it under the back seat. kzitem.info/news/bejne/sIClm2R6pHyZpaQ

Just my two cents here: I would rather reflow the solder on an OEM relay, my thinking is that re soldered OEM is more reliable than new chinese mystery box. Don't forget main relay can cause similar problems. Main relay is on driver's side. I always reflow the solder on any used 88-01 Honda I buy automatically.

Good points. I actually reflowed the solder on one of these relays in a '99 accord, but the issue eventually came back. Probably bad soldering on my part though.

True. I did that on the same board from a Honda Accord. The problem returned after a couple of years however, but my daughter sold it before I got a chance to look at the board to see if the solder failed again. ... @@FamilyFriendlyDIY Most definitely. My wife's 2001 CR-V stalled randomly about a week ago which was super annoying because I just did the timing belt, water pump, crank seal, cam seals, belts and valve cover gasket, tube seals, torque mounts and cam plug about two months ago at my friend's house, and recently the car was having a hard time starting. I thought perhaps I damaged or didn't totally plug in the crankshaft position sensor when I put the bottom end back together, but I know that I did. I was installing a backup cam on the car yesterday and figured while I was down there I may as well take a look at the relay. Turns out it had small cracks in exactly the same bead that you had. My wife is good at soldering so I tossed it to her, showed her the cracks and said, "you know what to do." She touched it up with the solder, and it fires up nice now. Best it's started in a couple of months.

Good Vid, However did not explain how you diagnosed the issue. Honda and Toyota are easy to work on. Not very complicated. Do not be a parts changer. Need evidence to make sure that the issue is caused by that part. No start/stalling issue can be caused by other factors. Just saying.

My 2001 Honda Cr-v has 277k miles randomly while driving would stall on me. I've taken to mechanics and they test it couldn't find anything wrong. They eventually changed out the distributor and cap, battery, starter, timing belt & water pump, main relay, crankshaft pulley and after all that it now has a hard time starting when I have driven 80 miles for work on a daily basis. I can hear it crank but I have to hold the key or pump gas to hope it starts. I've only had it back for 2 days now and will have to take it back in. They are wanting to look at replacing fuel pump and filter. After much research and money spent how do you know if it's just the fuel relay or possible the ignition coil. Not sure when they replaced the distributor cap & rotor if ignition coil was included. Any help is appreciated... my dad was my go to and passed away. He used to work on my car and taught me the basics. I'm at the mercy of my Honda mechanics but now just hearing from technician my car is old. It runs great except the hesitation to starting. It's random once I get it going and I park for a couple hours no problem. It's seems to happen when it's sat for over 9 hours.
@FamilyFriendlyDIY

Here's a good simple test. When your car won't start, turn your key totally off, then turn it back to the "run" position (where all the lights come on-- but not so far that the engine starts) and listen for a short hum. That's your fuel-pump priming. If you hear it, you know your relay and fuel-pump are working, and the no-start is cause by something else. If you don't hear the short hum, then it's a fuel problem. The relay is the cheapest and easiest fix. You might not even need to test it though. Just pull the relay cover off and look for cracked solder. If you see some, almost guaranteed that's your problem. If it's you fuel pump, I have another video to show you how to change that. It's really easy on the CRV. There's direct access to it under the backseat. kzitem.info/news/bejne/sIClm2R6pHyZpaQ
