HI, Thanks a lot. I have done it to mine (tribute 2021), just the cover and a wire connecting to the ground for the controls and on to the switch. I made sure the connectivity is there. However, when I rub my hand outside of the cover, on the wood surrounding the cavity, I hear static crackle. I might need to tape the whole cavity but it is like 80% better. Very nice now and it seems that the pick ups sound better. They truly do based on my recordings unless I am crazy, which could be a possibility too !!! It Could be due to less electrostatic interferences but a lot more clarity and more PAF nasal type of sound. I am really happy about it now. In fact, it sound like the Gibson sound I was expecting but never got until now.

Regarding the PCB, just put isolating tape on top and you are golden.

HI, I went back to shield both cavities. It is now very quiet and I made sure connectivity was good for the switch and the pcb. Quiet as it can be. Thanks so much.

thanks for the video, I have an annoying grounding issue on my LP standard which goes away when I touch any metal part, also static when I rub the back, and to make things worse, the pickups are very microphonic, and since I use the guitar for recording, I will have to get it all fixed . the microphonic pickups are the worse, because they both do it, and it sounds like a metronome click through the amp or interface when recording, so its probably a loose ground. Will come back when I figure it out.

Thanks for the video! Having the same issue with a LP Tribute (2011) I just bought. Having shielded both my Strat and Tele in the same manner as shown here (with great result); the LP is next! :)

Cool video man! I have never had that issue but if I ever do, I’ll know what I need to do on my Gibson LP Tribute. Now on my Fender strats the crackle or 60 cycle hum is common so using the copper or paint shielding I have done before. But never on a Gibson. Learn something new.

Why you don't put some isolator on PCB board?

In did something similar. I ran a wire to where the cover is and connected to ground. I put copper tape on the cover and a piece on the wood. I didn’t have to tape the whole cavity.

Hi! I’m interested in your method as I’d love to avoid unnecessary work if possible. Could you explain to me what you did. I’m a bit confused as I’m a total noob but would like to learn. Thank you!

I'm thinking about buying a Tribute also. There is one thing I have noticed about your guitar, your neck pickup looks like it is installed upside down. I have also noticed it on other post in KZitem. Or does it really matter? Let me know what you think? Nice guitar!!!!!

It the Adam Jones mod! Just changes the sound of the midrange from the pickup. I like it better for leads

I lined both my cavities with copper tape, and eliminated about 98% of the static, I am going to pull the electronics and do the entire guitar.

the wire in the toggle switch was a nice touch but not necessary. The contact of the switch goes to ground, so copper making contact with the switch grounds it out.

It is sad this is not done at the factory

Agreed! It's too bad that import companies like schecter and even Harley Benton are turning out better quality than some of the $1,200 Gibsons.

just letting you know Gibson dose not shield guitars . turning your pickup around takes it to out of phase to much of a strain on your bridge magnet.that's why they are set like they are from the factory. the covers for the access panel and selector are made for shielding putting copper tape is counter productive.

It still crackled like this when the pickup was turned the factory way. What I've heard is that the crackle is from the nitro finish curing? Lol. In any case, the grounded copped shielding in both cavities DEFINITELY cured the static crackle, and many tribute owners suffer the same issue, so if gibson shielded the cavities from the factory, they could really up their game! Thanks for commenting.

@June Bromley Our host, and his video, showed how the shielding solved a prevalent problem. Counter productive? Gibson factory sent out our host's guitar, and my 2016 SG, with bad static issues that required rectification. Some of us do our own trouble shooting and look for real world solutions regardless of a manufactuer's product specs or design. Your post assisted in nothing other than revealing yourself as an idiot. Be well.

Unclear from the vid - did you eliminate the shield plate also or not? Thanks. My guitar has same issue.

Nevermind. I see you talking about not shorting the plate to the shield, so therefore, it's clear you kept the shield/pcb. Thanks.

I’m thinking of a Gibson tribute over a PRs just wondering where you purchased it? I’m thinking about getting one from sweetwater. What’s the deal with them using a CB

I bought mine used from guitarcenter.com. Sweetwater is cool because they do a good inspection and you can choose your guitar! However, I have also had a PRS s2, and I'd say it's better than the gibson. I also have a core model custom 24 and it's waaaay better, but it's also almost 4x the price haha.

I scratch my head at Gibson? You pay damn good money and you get back half finished product, mine was the same, and the frets needed crowning too, I paid £2200? the photo they put in there, what does that mean? THey must improve their quality.

Yeah, definitely some quality issues at gibson. But, if you get a quality used one at a bargain price, they are still awesome guitars. I just bought a barely used studio hp with a recent fret job for $800 that plays like a dream.
