I get the impression that a son is helping his father share how to fix this really common design problem. Thanks, I appreciate it!

Thanks for the video. These tips worked perfectly. Took about 10 minutes and my wife holding it while I sanded it down. Working great!

Since I made the adjustment it's been working great. The video helped me in the disassembly of the unit (upper section). I didn't want to break the plastic, as you may have guessed it's brittle and can break if stressed too much. I hope this helps others, it takes some time but well worth it. About an hour for me.

Yeah, good call on the initial removal. I would also recommend putting vaseline on the pivot point when reassembling to minimize chances of it getting stuck again. Ours has gotten stuck once or twice since we posted the video, but it is not a nuisance anymore.

Great Video , the only thing that it didn't cover was how to get the valve assembly out if the toilet in the first place. turns out just a 1/8 turn CCW and it comes out. then you have the assembly ready to dismantle. I tried the repair on two toilets took 5 minutes each and it is fixed. Do i trust Water Ridge toilets ....NO . but hopefully the repair lasts so i don't get another 300.00 water bill while on holidays. Great how to video

Great video, gives one the information how to access the inside. I fixed my unit in place. Only thing I did extra was lube the rocker assembly and had to flush the fill unit after repairing the flushing part. Thank you greatly.

Thanks for the video. Both my exact toilets had the same issues. Appreciate you showing how to disassemble without breaking. Now if only these toilets would flush with a little more ska-douch... there'd be less complaining in the house!

Thanks for the video. My toilet used to run on about 30 percent of the time and I would have to rattle the buttons to stop it from running on. Since doing the fix you showed it hasn't ran on at all.

Where do you get the seal for these individually? It's insane they make you buy the whole $50+ flush kit for a simple silicone seal.

I have been getting the stuck toilet issue as well with my 1 piece water ridge. I took apart the cartridge and the axle was smooth but I sanded it anyways and added some oil which will inevitably wash off. I also tightened the white nuts on the grey prongs coming from the lid. If this doesn't solve the issue Ill throw the toilet out. This toilet was costing me $30/day in water use when running.

Perhaps the emory cloth is better used on the head of the person who designed this cartridge. Had to also do such a modification to all three of mine (which proves all of them were designed incorrectly) since we also have a video addressing the problem. But thankfully, the newer Wateridge models have better, standard-replacement cartridges that work. Do yourself a favor. If you have one of these older toilets, replace the entire junky thing with the newer Wateridge and be amazed.

Yeah, we played around with this too, but were frustrated that it wasn't working as designed (ie: holding for a longer flush)...good tip though! certainly a quick work around!

Just renovated the flush tower rocker shaft on my older Waterridge dual flush toilet. When I first got it over a decade ago, it worked OK, but gradually I started noticing that the flush valve wouldn't seal and the toilet could be running water until I returned - sometimes eight hours later. What's the point of a water saving toilet if it does that? After watching a number of videos, this one was the most helpful (because it has the yellow and blue flush tower, same as the older Waterridge here). Before I started, though, I called the number in the owner's manual (which luckily I still have), described the problem, and they are sending me a new flush tower assembly. Although evidently even new flush towers can have a rough rocker shaft that needs sanding, due to casting lines or other manufacturing imperfections. So when I get that one, I'll check out the rocker shaft and sand it as well. BTW, for this one, I had to use various grades of emery cloth to get a good result (the rocker shaft had worn flat spots into the sides). I used some 220, then 400, then finally 1000 grit paper cut into strips. After all that, the unit seems to be flushing correctly again. I agree it's not the best design. However for my other bath I got a more recent Waterridge toilet from Costco. Although it doesn't have this flush tower problem, I'm a little less fond of it because it doesn't seem to flush as completely as the older one, and the flush tower doesn't seem to have any adjustment to increase the flush volume, although one can modify it slightly by holding down the full flush button. Also the newer one is ADA height compliant, which is fine, unless one wants to install a bidet seat, in which case the height may be excessive. A bidet seat on the older model raises the final height to ADA compliant levels but not too high.

how to you remove total valve assembly to put in a new one?
@richadams1602
6 жыл бұрын
As I put in another reply, just grip the flush tower firmly and turn slightly counter clockwise. This will disengage two tabs from the mating slots on the coupler on the bottom of the tank. Once the flush tower is removed, there is a stainless steel bar held in place by a screw in the middle. Loosen that just enough to be able to free the coupler, but not all the way, because then the screw might fall into the plumbing and that will not be fun to retrieve. Reverse those steps to install the new flush valve assembly.

one thing I have done to fix this problem and for me I have not had a single stick open since my repair is to limit the downward throw of the buttons ----if the button goes all the way down it would stick ----- I adjusted the rods on the bottom of the lid to only depress the flush valve 3/4 way down ---- half flush works great and seems to flush everything anyways -- full flush sometimes you have to hold the button down --- but it never sticks anymore
@richadams1602

I tried that approach and it worked for a week or two, and then it started sticking again on the full flush. So I finally pulled the tower and did the sandpaper trick. Seems to be fine now. We'll have to see in a month or two if it holds.

I cannot get the canister out of the tank. If someone would post a video removing one, that would make this process complete!
@richadams1602

It's easy enough, but not obvious, and of course the owner's manual doesn't discuss that. The flush valve tower is connected to the coupler on the bottom of the tank by a simple turn lock arrangement. Just grip the tower firmly and turn slightly to the left (counter clockwise). It only need about 1 inch or less of turn. Then it will loosen and you can lift it off.

Call the 800 number in the owner's manual. Don't have it? Try: 866-789-2273. If you describe the runaway flush problem they'll probably send you a new flush valve for free. However it may also need the emery cloth treatment to remove mfg marks from the rocker shaft.
