1) Where is this capacitor located on a 17" Macbook Pro? 17" has the same issue. 2) 375uF is a good cap. Nothing wrong with 375uF. Maybe it breaks-down under heat? Maybe under vibration (fan?)? If 375uF were the sole problem, why not simply remove the 10uF cap in parallel right next door?

Hello, I'm trying to do this on my macbook pro and I have one question: would a 330mf 6.3V capacitor work? or does it needs to match voltage as well? btw this is a great video thank you very much for uploading this, I've been trying to fix my MBP for two years and I was about to throw it away until I saw this!

This is the same specs of capacitors? I have 1 here, from a old MacG3, tells 330J05 and theres another 330J04, what you think?

Thanks for posting this. I have a question.. The original is 220uF 2V, right? Does it matter much which capacitor I use as long as I get those specs or higher (within reason)?
@mantisnomo5984

On the A1286 board, the original should be 330uF @2V. 220uF is for the model one rev newer or older than the A1286 logic board.

I left my 2010 with gpu fault after a mb replacement closed on the desk. When I came back 20 min later it was overheating while closed and didn't react to anything, but pressing forced shutdown with the on button. No the display stays black when I try to start it. Dosen't boot anymore. :( These Macbook Pro generation was really crap.

Just an FIY some models do not work with the 330 and you will need 220. This is in the schematic also.

I'm very confused: You measured the capacitor you removed. This is one of the reasons I wanted to repair my computer myself, is that I want to see how far the value of the cap has deviated to cause my GPU to intermittently kernel panic from notching the power supply line during large frame-buffer updates. But the cap you removed measures 373uF. The aging capacitor should be a lower capacitance. Perhaps we can conclude that the temporary value is increased, because you severely heated the cap to desolder it from the logic board. OK. Still, it seems awfully high a value. Like why bother to replace it with a smaller value? The other thing I do not understand is that technically a poly-tantalum cap is an electrolytic capacitor, and is polarized. You measure the same (1uF difference) value for both polarities. Both of these unanticipated things puzzle me. Are there simple explanations?

Hello iTCXtreme, i have a mid 2010 macbook pro 15" i have had this problem for a little while but i think i have completely fried the capacitor as it does not get past the boot screen any ideas? I do have a soldering iron but i don't think it is powerful enough to remove the type of solder that is on there currently and i also need to know what capacitor to replace it with. Thank you

that capacitor if you measure it with an ESR meter it will be wrong it is not a reliable measurement of capacity only.
