Yea, I don't have private land to hunt on but I take info from here, look at areas that might fit the conditions on public land, and see what I can do. This has helped fill a few more tags. I may not be a great hunter, but I'm consistently improving kinda like our Lions. It's a long journey. Paraphrasing Dan Campbell ..Just trying to put myself in a position to win a game...Go Lions!

Love your point about watching deer. Not only does it help you get an understanding of deer movement with hunting season in mind, but IT'S JUST FUN! I typically do some evening sits in the summer in my saddle just like I'm hunting but instead of a bow I'm just armed with my camera. I'll do this toward the end of season as well if the tags are filled cuz Dec is such a cool time to be in the woods in southern MN...

Thx Jeff; your videos provide the big picture and the small details required to achieve the big picture i.e. harvesting a mature buck every year. I am learning what I have done wrong and right from your videos. Your concept of Food, Screening/ Security Cover and Depth of Cover make perfect sense. You are teaching me how to devise and execute a legitimate plan.

Appreciate your work because it's so helpful. Your knowledge of food plotting and nature. We think of you as a whitetail and food plot specialist but your love of nature is obvious, you mentioned building rabbit shelter and planting cover for pheasant and attracting bees Is so interesting. Thanks jeff

Hi Jeff, Another great video. Addresses a very real problem. We would like to get in touch with you regarding your consultation service. Please let me know the best way to get ahold of you to talk more about our property and goals. I’ve attempted to reach out via your site but have not heard back. thought there may be a glitch. Again, can’t thank you enough for all the education.

I've worked down there with great success. There are great deer herds and it's fairly easy to find great results because the region is full of traditional deer management practices that really don't work that well.

Got my soil test back from MSU and I need a ton of lime (pun intended). I saw how you spread lime in prior videos but don't remember if you then disc it in or just let it seep in naturally. Your insight would be very helpful. Thanks for another great video.

Hi Greg! I just spread it on top...powdered lime. With clay you would want to disc or till in if you can, but with most soils it will react sufficiently. I think that video is titled, "#1 Food Plot Ingredient".

Great video. Thank you. This is something that I am working on this early spring. I am in SW Wisconsin - are the briars typically planted and what are plat is suggested? Also any particular shrubs that you suggest? Do you cut the trees down in this area then plant the soft edge? This is something that I definitely see an opportunity for me vs my hing cut area directly off the food plot.

Thanks for the content Jeff. I know its never good to scare deer off of food. Whats your take on scaring deer off of destination food? Just as important? The way our access is set up with the neighboring farms, we simply cannot access/exit without going through destination fields. Though the plots that we put in further back in the timber are never spooked or pressured. If we only spook the large destination fields would it also spook them off of the unpressured plots relating to it?

great videos. I started working on deer Habitat on my family 200 acres for the last 2 years. and since this last December started our farm has alot of bucks under 2 years old showing up. Idk what to think . are the mature bucks spending less time on property and younger bucks moving in idk what to think of all the younger bucks moving in all of sudden. any thoughts?

Jeff, if just hinge cutting can accomplish hiding your food plot and providing safety to the deer while screening from bucks, why do you need anything more?

I’m thinking hinge cutting is sufficient when the leaves on the cuts are present but is lacking screening cover when the leaves die and only offer limbs and twigs, which are pretty porous unless you really stack the cuts.

Hey Jeff, love your videos! I'm looking into buying my own land for hunting. Do you have any thoughts on pieces that might have a large marshy area, especially in the middle (probably 13-14 acres out of 86 total)? Would you stay away, or figure out how to use it to your advantage?

Is there such a thing as planting too small of a food plot with screening? I want to plant switchgrass around a quarter acre food plot but I’m worried the deer may feel “trapped/predator wary” in that small of an area…

What is the minimum distance from a driveway or road you would put a hunting plot, even with heavy conifer screening? Sound certainly travels from all nearby roads and houses a great distance, hoping you can comment on what counts for the sound "S" as far as a sanctuary.

My food plots stayed daytime active until Thanksgiving day this season. I still had daylight movement early and late in the travel corridors, I don't hunt my food plots, most of my stands are at least 100 yds away and I never hunt with bad winds. My property is long and narrow with with some of the nastiest swamp you can find on three sides so my access is garbage there is literally no way too get alternate access, I have been keeping the roadways clear right down too the dirt. And the deer don't seem to catch on too my scent through visual observation, but after Thanksgiving day and all the shooting going on all around me turned the heard nocturnal. Is there a way to combat this on my narrow piece in the largest woods in my particular county in the finger lakes region of ny. ?

This is off topic but trespassers....I know your stance on trespassers. We try our best to get along with our neighbors but they seem to not care. They’ll go on to our land and retrieve deer without permission, even though we told them to call us before they begin to track. We (my father and I) are afraid that if we were to press charges that they’ll retaliate by cutting down our stands, target shoot right on the property line, etc. We don’t want to start a “war” with the neighbors but we don’t know what else to do. How would you approach the situation?
