What you say is incorrect. Missing springs don’t cause overrev. Twisted (i.e. shortened springs do), or something impeding the airvane or the governor mechanism can. That might be grass around the airvane (under the cover) or grunge on any of the pivots. You can test by moving the governor arm. Move away from the springs and the motor will slow i.e. when the springs are UNTENSIONED. The airvane is pushed away which operates the governor arm in this way and slows the motor. The springs counteract that to keep speed higher. So yes, springs need to be in place and undamaged, but you’ve fundamentally misunderstood the mechanism. The idle can be adjusted to some extent (as I think you mention in another video) by adjusting the angle of the plate to which the smaller spring is attached. Bend away from spring body to tension more (speed up), bend towards spring body to slow down. But worth checking speed without this spring attached to make sure that the main governor spring is not already too tensioned and causing overrev. If replacing the springs doesn’t work (or you don’t have any), stretching the larger spring a little may help. But easy does it a little at a time as it cannot be “unstretched”.

Hi there, serviced my mower. It thrn started over revving. Replaced the governor springs again just incase i got a bad batch. But it's still over revving. Stuck 4 springs on and its still over revving. My only thought is that its over massively over fueling and overcoming the tension in the springs. Not sure what would be causing this as i dismantled the carb and cleaned it out and couldnt find any blockages or damage. Possibly a damaged gasket allowing more fuel in?

Hi I've recently purchased a used Mountfield with Briggs classic engine. The revs were going up and down so I replaced the diaphragm and gasket, air filter, put 2 new governor springs, new spark plug and cleaned the carb. Now it's revving quiet high and still hunting ie revs going up and down. Could it be my springs are too tight (they seemed a bit less floppy than the old ones) but judging by the video the revs would be lower because springs would be pulling the black triangle lever thing closer??? Am I missing something? ? What do I need to move or bend and in which direction in order to reduce the revs please

That little lever on the the carburetor is not supposed to be stationary. The flipper is meant to make the lever/valve toggle open and closed.

My springs are working properly, however I have not found a video showing the proper position for the adjustment control wire ( the wire running from the control on the handle) the engine is running very fast, so I think the problem may be in the position of the control, is there any particular position this should be in.

What you say is incorrect, the tighter the springs the higher the revs, reducing tension in the springs reduces rpm.

The problem with mine is (wood chipper). It revs up and down full throttle. Never done it before, and I don't seem to find any video of other people having same issues

Possibly the gasket between carb and tank. Usually what causes surging. They get warped due to a design weakness. Cheap to replace.
