Phone key stopped working yesterday. Car wouldn't drive without key card, yet all other functions on app worked fine. Gave up trying and went to Tesla showroom. Three service techs were dumfounded. Finally, decided to uninstall app, then reinstall, then pair. It worked! TIP! ALWAYS CARRY THE KEY CARD IN THE EVENT THE APP STOPS WORKING OR YOU LOSE YOUR PHONE.

We just spent +3 hours trying to connect an iPhone to our new 2023 Tesla 3. Screen said “Searching” and would NOT find the phone. We were inside the garage with the door open. Sooooo, we backed out of the garage and into the driveway and BINGO! Phone was Paired and All is Well 😁. Please tell your subscribers that’s if they are having problems pairing a phone, make sure the car is Outside.

Great video and lots of help for this issue. I would add one last thing that solved my most recent problem connecting the Tesla app to my Pixel. I rebooted my phone and this solved my problem. After thinking about it for a minute this should probably be the first thing a person with this problem should try. Like myself it's probable most of us don't restart our phones very often and forget this simple step. Remember, our smartphones are miniature computers and remedying the immediate odd problem is often solved with a restart.

I have had all the pixel phones and a 2018 model 3 from new, all of them had very minimal issues if any like one time just needing to connect again, never been stranded,BUT however unlike with my nissan leaf i have to manually press the Bluetooth connect button sometimes when i get in the car its about 40% of the time it does not connect automatically, it could be that it takes more time and i am impatient, but my nissan was ready to play audio a few seconds after i was in the car, also this is only in reference to audio playing through the car from the phone Bluetooth, getting in keyless with the phone in my pocket works almost flawless over the years about 99.9% of the time

I went thru all of your suggestions. I made an appointment with Tesla but did one last effort! Delete the app and reload it! It worked. Even though I kept it updated, It didn’t matter, deleting and reinstalling it fixed the problem I had for hours.

thank you! Thank You! THANK YOU! After upgrading from iPhone 12 to iPhone 14, the car wouldn't let me start it without using the card. I spent about 90 minutes on this before finding your video, because the car said it was connected to the phone and the phone said it was connected to the car. I had no idea the car and phone only talked to each other through the Tesla app, AND that I had to re-pair the phone to the card in order to have everything work again. Bingo, thanks again!

Great video with one big mistake....holding brake down while pressing 2 scrolls wheels is a hard reboot....only holding scroll buttons is a soft reboot and fixes most issues

OMG THANK YOU so much for this video. For weeks now only the app worked and the Tesla stopped seeing my iPhone as key. I even removed it form the “lock” list on the car, but the app would not provide a “set up key”. It turns out I needed to update the app and when I rebooted it automatically recognized the iPhone as key again. Thank you

Thank you! The first solution worked for me, the app was not properly running in the background because of the Samsung battery saving feature. Changing the app to unrestricted battery usage fixed it.

interesting...I will take my galaxy off battery save and try this. The T recognizes my phone and unlocks door but my calls and texts haven't been linking. Hopefully this will work. Thanks!

I just got a model 3. My iPhone would not connect. I had already set my phone up to be a key with the Tesla app. So I uninstalled the Tesla app, added the phone to the Tesla, then added it back as a key. All is working now.

Between over 90k miles total w my 3 and y, and this has happened a few times w both cars. No issues w my phone or settings so have had to take it to get serviced since they were both under warranty when the errors occurred. Try resettimg the phone or car first, but sometimes you just need to get them to fix it at the service center. Not sure how they did that for mine, just know that I’m having this issue this week w it acting up and today not connecting to my phone at all. After trying the usual fixes, scheduled an appt w the Tesla service center.

Soft reboot is key. Note that bluetooth for keycard is a separate connection than bluetooth for stereo system.

Tesla offered a software update when i went to oft reset. I did the update then on my account (i am primary for both cars) I added my wife as a driver and all is well. I had never deleted her. Also when I was trying to connect her phone tesla started playing her book on Bluetooth even though it said not connected to the phone. It’s fixed now. Thank you for the help

I have a Y. In my case i tried: restarting the app. soft booting the console. hard booting both tesla and app. removing app and reinstalling it. finally, I did a factory reset on the tesla console and my issue seem to have cleared after that. So far I have not had the issue yet. Note: The blue tooth was working for I could open, lock car, etc. with no Internet (wifi). It seems like the telemetry (car stats, like last seen) and commands (like trying to set schedule, vent, etc) go over wifi however when in the tesla I could watch netflix, spotify, webbrowse, etc.

I have done all the stuff you mention in video and still won’t connect. Aside from the stuff you said I also updated my iOS and turn the phone off n on, soft reset the phone, removed my user key from car and none of it work. Just want to add, I had this same issues before and after iOS update it fixed it but not working now.

Hmm.. Is your phones bluetooth on, and in the privacy settings (under bluetooth) is Tesla enabled? Also, when you look at your phones bluetooth, does it show the Tesla?

Is it true you always have to keep Tesla app running to unlock your car ? I noticed I can’t drive or recognize my profile until I open Tesla app. Previous updates allowed to unlock with just blue tooth running. Is this a new change in software?

No, you should not need to keep the app "open" at all times. Bluetooth should be able to recognized while the app is "closed" and the phone is "locked". I hope that helps clarify.

@@franconia007 Tesla has a pop-up that instructs me to keep my Tesla app running in the background; this solves my issue with it not unlocking by sensing my iPhone.

I'm having a similiar issue with my Model Y - I already own a Model 3 and never had a issue, but since I got Model Y, my phone wont connect to either car. I have to reboot my phone each time in order for it to work.. bloody hate this. Non of the above mentioned tricks worked for me unfortunately.

M3LR with IPhone 14 - have checked all the settings and done the phone and vehicle reboots, deleted and re-installed app to get key card and phone to pair, does it once and then forgets who I am again, running out of patience now having to use the card to enter and drive every time. My wife has an older iPhone X and hers works no problem. Suspect something went wrong transferring data from my old iphone to the new one as that's when the problems started but doesn't help me. Clear video however so thanks for that but just not helping me and mine.

I had a different fix after trying all these methods. In my Tesla phone settings, my “Background App Refresh” was turned off and greyed out - only solve was to restart my phone 😅

i got IPhone 14 and it never connects to my model 3 when i try adding my new device on touch screen of the car to listen to media It is so frustrating . My samsung S9 didn't have this issue since past 4 years.... I tried all the steps you mentioned in your video....I'm able to pair Iphone up easily with the key card and it unlocks the car normally when i get near to it. The problem is on the touch screen, . Please help...

i tried all 5 recommendations and they didn't work. i got bluetooth to connect by taping the bluetooth icon on upper right hand corner of the Tesla display. i selected the device the device and the connect button.

I can't figure out a consistent cause for it working vs not working. Bluetooth off then on, wifi off then on, Tesla app off then on, soft rebooting screen all of these work sometimes but then sometimes don't. It's getting very frustrating

So my Tesla M3 has stopped responding to the app, the Bluetooth is fine, car unlocks but I can't access it remotely via the app. App settings are correct, I've done a soft reboot of the car 3 times and nothing works. Anything else to try?

Have you tried deleting the app and re-downloading it? It may need an update. Hope that helps!

The first one worked but it seems counterintuitive to have to have the Tesla app opened to make the connection. I thought is was an Android vs Apple issue. The service guys couldn't figure this out when I stopped in!

I recently upgraded my iPhone from an XR to an iPhone 13 Pro. My Tesla app is working fine but now my widget isn’t. My widget shows the “Setup: Tap to Launch” at all times. When I tap the widget, it takes me to my Tesla app and everything works fine. Anybody else had this problem?

Try turning 'Flight Mode ' on and then off. This is a Tesla suggestion, worked for me, when nothing else did.
