Thank you! I worked on this for over an hour and watched six different videos. If you had not said something about the voltage and amps, I never would have looked. Correction: the amperage on your charger should be higher than what your laptop draws, voltage is the requirement and the current will be modulated (not drawn to the max of the charger). Using a charger with max amperage capacity of less than your laptop requires may damage the charger.

Great videos , I'm at this point , I know my battery needs replacing , but prior to it just being a Solid on Orange light on a old Asus X502C , it goes out when I press the power key. Did the Bios reset and put a new CMOS battery in too , tested the charger 19.47 v , all ok , battery ,one of those horrid built in ones , but it stil gave me 1 hour charge which I'd have gone ahead and ordered be it not firstly finding your tuition vidd ,because I've always gone from a article that it does ,esp gaming Laptops ,them good to work off DC alone , so now I'm at a point where I've yet to do a voltage test to the Laptops power port ,and take the mobo out again ,if it's not that it's gotta be comment failure , my issues all started when I was testing a monitor ,as soon as I plugged the HDMI port from the UN powered monitor to the Asus socket it never came back on again, it did for sometime Blink orange but then it's constant orange , so you talking about ,"Static ,that's got me thinking "! The monitor could have been unstable and mmmmm, just thought , if that's blown , and it's wrongly fused prior then it could have Cost me the use of a laptop worth a few quid , but you feel after a while confident and never let you down , gotta say too,Asus , Lenovo,HP, etc , all have this horrible built on board RAM,internal batteries , it's like the days of repair to them ,they don't want them to be repaired now ! Just watched the Video's very good. Not being a Technician, if I buy the Connector part which is not expensive, can install myself. Does it entail just unplugged the old and in plugging the new. HP Diagnostics said the connector / adaptor passed the test???. Its either that part or I'm stumped its still reading 4%. Now I know where the hidden screws are to remove the cover I will suck all the dust out and pull out the connector device and then plug back in???
@PC_Monkey

Yes, usually the power jack is not a very expensive part. If your power jack is on its own board, it would be a simple matter of removing the board and replacing it. However, many power jacks are now a part of the motherboard and not on their own board. In that case, it would be a matter of replacing the motherboard or un-soldering the power jack and soldering on a new one. I dont understand the last question.

From last few months my laptop don't turn on if i leave all night plugged in or also if i forgot to pull out the charger after shutting down.. next time it wont turn on.. this keeps happening i assumed its static and followed your previous to remove static build up.. but this time it didn't work out .. so i bought a multimeter, new power jack and a new button switch .. thinking these could b the problem first i checked the power supply in charger and power jack with multimeter both gave me 19.5V ..perfectly fine But when i about to check the power passes to the motherboard, i thought to match black with black and red with red.. but it gave a spark.. when u say put red on metal bracket..what does it mean ? and I haven't separated the motherboard it is still in place. do u recommend to remove separately and check it ? .. and can u tell me at what plave should i place multimeter red port .. and what is metal bracket ??

This might be a shot in the dark considering how old this video is, but I need help. If it helps, my pc is a HP 15 bw. I replaced my powerjack which I thought was the issue behind my laptop not receiving energy while comnected (even though the charging light turned on), but then my battery wouldn't charge with that either, and worse, it ran out completely after doing a battery report. At that point I thought it was either the battery or the motherboard-powerjack connector, the latter being the most suspicious to me since my laptop can't be powered on with just the charger, but I first bought a new, generic battery anyway. Turns out that battery couldn't even turn ON my pc. I then tried with the old battery again while it was turned off and it apparently was charging, with the orange "charging" light and all. I left it like that like for 5-6 hours, then I tried to turn it on, which it did for a couple seconds, because the battery didn't charge at all. I couldn't even get past the manufacturer logo. Now, when I tried to connect it to the power again, the charging light wouldn't even turn on, new or old battery. That's when I tried checking with the multimeter. Problem is, everything was reading fine; from the charger, the powerjack, even my most suspicious component the motherboard-powerjack connector. I'm at a point of not knowing what could it be, I've tried turning it on with no RAM, HDD, etc. and nothing.

Hi, my problem is not what you show on the video, but I figured out you could help me, the thing is, I bought a new charger, it was supposed to be the original one, it says DELL looks like it is in fact an original one, but Im pretty sure its just fake, cuz its not the same quality. So the charger works, but it was doing some weird things, for example, this happened a few times that the battery got low and laptop turned off, so what you normally do, is just plug it in and turn the laptop on right away, well in this case you had to wait like 10 min for it to start, cuz it would just turn on and off. this is one thing. But recently something really weird happened, I was watching a movie, and the battery got full charged, I didnt realize cuz I was with the movie, I know you're not supposed to keep charging the laptop if the battery is full charged, but let's be honest, it happens all the time and nothing weird happens, well this time was totally different, I finished the movie and I noticed the battery icon of the bar of the operative system was missing, there was no battery icon, I never thought it was because the laptop was rejecting the battery, but after a few minutes I sad it must be fully charged, so I unpluged it and surprise, it turned off, there was no icon because apparently there was no battery. now the battery doesn't work at all, it is supposed to be full charged, but I turned the laptop on and it works and all of a sudden turn off, at any moment. Ive been using the laptop plug in all the time without the battery, cuz Im afraid the battery is fully charged and to keep charging it, so I thought it would be better to use the laptop this way. pls answer my question, you seems you could know what's going on. is it possible the charger damaged the battery just after a few uses ? is it safe to keep using the charger if it really damaged the battery ? and about what Ive been doing, is it safe to use a laptop without the battery and just plug in all the time ?. PD: of course there is the tipically problem that a laptop's battery stop working and it is unable to charge anything, but this is totally different, cuz it says it is fully charged, and all of a sudden the laptop seems to reject the battery, so it turns off.
@PC_Monkey

It is possible but not super likely. I would easier think that the battery is just reaching the end of its life and needs to be replaced. In general, no, you shouldnt use the laptop plugged in all the time. Batteries should be allowed to drain down every now and then.

@@PC_Monkey the thing is, three days ago the battery lasted about 2 hours, today the laptop dies after 10 min or less, totally random, so its not possible to work like that, so I thought if Im goint to have it plug in all the time, I better take the battery out, I mean it is working like a desktop pc, I dunno if that's something we should not do.

@@isaccz7404 Yes, when a Battery dies, its performance can be sporadic or take a drastic nose-dive all at once. Your computer should work fine with just the charger and no battery unless your doing any 'heavy' tasks like extreme gaming or other CPU / GPU intense work.

What’s the brown wire for?
@theodoredemacedosoares3681

Did you get a voltage reading when you tested the white wires with + red wire? My laptop power jack has a single white wire which does not register voltage with + wire. The black and red wires are fine showing 19V. My laptop will not turn on with good AC power adapter (tests at 19V).

@@PC_Monkey Thanks so much for replying! Yes, the red is + and black is -. When, with power connected, I touch both with the meter leads, I get 19V. When I touch the red and the white I get no voltage. I assumed white functioned as ground and meter should register voltage with the red wire. But it doesn't. My laptop does turn on and functions properly on battery. It does not turn on with battery disconnected and AC power adapter plugged in. When the computer is on, the power adapter will not charge the battery. The power adapter is good--supplies 19V. The weird part is sometimes the battery will charge up but only if the laptop is completely turned off! I did try resetting the bios by removing the CMOS battery as you suggested in the other video, but no luck. Something funky is going on and I really like my EVGA SC17 laptop!
