Thank you :) All exercises I have found on the Internet were based on activating your pelvic floor using your - let's say - willpower (for example when you are given cues to zip your pelvic floor up, to pull it up, to imagine that it's like an elevator, tissue or string or flower - you can find many of these). The second one is the best exercise to have a great feeling of deep muscles (pelvic floor and transverse muscle) without thinking about it and forcing to activate them with willpower, they just engage by themselves in that position. I think that it's especially helpful for women with prolapse. I wanna ask though if you should hold the tension on the ball throughout those five breaths or make pauses between every breath (inhale+exhale). Please make more videos about pelvic floor exercises for leaking, stress incontinence and prolapse.

Thanks for this Conor. The lack of knowledge among healthcare professionals around the ribcage and pelvic floor is staggering. The pelvic floor is assumed to be only something that keeps certain organs in place and should be only problematic in women who have given birth or elderly men. Any knowledge seems to be limited to overly loose pelvic floors too not the opposite. As someone with a chronically tight pelvic floor, very tight abdominals and posterior pelvic tilt, getting any professional to even acknowledge the issues has been a challenge. Educating myself has been key and thanks so much for this video and others to help me understand what the hell is happening. I had never heard of the pelvic floor until years after experiencing chronic pelvic pain and lots of puzzled looks and dismissed words from professionals. I am hoping these exercises will help towards beginning to get my body back to working properly and getting my ribs to stack on top of my pelvis. Right now my pelvis tilts back and my ribs flare forward. Ive also bought your beginner program which im starting to use. Thanks again.

OMG, the Taoists had this figured out long ago. The four quadrants, all of it. There is an amazing book by Mantak Chia entitled ENERGY BALANCE THROUGH THE TAO, of ancient yogic techniques for the health of the psoas, the lumbar, pelvic floor, and meridians. These exercises saved my back and really changed my life. Conor, I know you would be fascinated and would understand it in a way that most would not

I'm 27 and have had chronic pelvic floor issues for 8 years now. Erectile dysfunction, incontinence. I've had an acrylic splint, orthotics, all trying to get my body neutral. Its a nightmare. I'm now doing myofunctional therapy to correct tongue posture and get a tongue tie release. 8 years of my life wasted, unable to have relationships, chronic pain. My right ripcage is forward and I'm breathing through the right side of my neck. Hell!

I was recently diagnosed with a tongue tie after decades of chronic low bock/neck issues. I’m currently in the process of expanding my palate with hardware in preparation for releasing my tongue tie. I will need myofunctional therapy throughout this process as well.

Levator Ani syndrome can also be a cause of pelvic pain / pudendal neuralgia. Levator Ani syndrome can be caused by a broken coccyx as that changes the anglulation of the muscle, causing spasm and then irritating the pudendal nerve. It takes about 5 years of going to doctors to get diagnosed with pudendal neuralgia, and I doubt there exists a medical professional that would accurately diagnose levator ani syndrome. The levator ani (at least in male) can be released by internally accessing it, it can also cause anismus or dyssergic defecation. Anxiety is probably far more of a cause of pelvic pain than any kind of trauma, so effective resolution of pelvic pain also involves psychologists / psychiatrists. If you have pain, kegels are almost always contraindicated. Obturator internus and the obturator nerve are also commonly affected by these issues, obturator nerve glides and internal rotation of the hip joint can help stretch the area. Anterior chain dominant exercises / core exercises can exacerbate symptoms. This is an exceedingly rare problem and information isn't very good, just sharing what I've learned having it and having poor healthcare providers.

I fell down a flight of stairs 12 years ago, couldn't walk upstairs for weeks and didn't know there was anything wrong until I found out sexual intercourse hurts but still didn't think there was something wrong with me since the doctors said "nothing broken" and physio didn't help much. Now years later, I found a pelvic floor therapist when pregnant because I couldn't walk without pain towards the end and found I have a tight spot inside my pelvic floor. Since it is so expensive to see physios all the time, I did my research and found a pelvic wand, got it and then discovered on my own, a tender spot inside my rectum, in and around direction 7 o'clock. When I put pressure, I can feel my back and somewhere in my abdomen hurting too. At first it was shocking/electrifying and sooo painful but over time it got better with consistent "massage" but I stopped for a few months and started again yesterday and it feels pain and not as good as when I was doing it daily. I suspect it could be the pudendal nerve or levator ani tightness if there is such a thing..not sure. Please share more if you have more knowledge/experience on what helps you, especially exercises. Thank you! :)

@@dawnforlifeAt 7 o clock, you are quite close to the coccyx and the levator ani attaches to the coccyx. Coccyx pain can present as back pain, another way to test this is to lower your chin to your chest and try to flex your spine from your ribcage / thoracic spine, the idea is to put a lot of traction on the nerves, doing this may flare up the symptoms in the low back and you may feel it into your sacrum and coccyx, you are actually describing the pain that I have very accurately, although my position of pain is around 3-4 o clock. Pudendal neuralgia can also present as suprapubic pain, felt in the pubis / bladder area or even in the abdomen. As for exercises, I basically treat my entire pelvis and pretty much every single muscle that is involved with the pelvis. Hip adduction / abduction / flexion / extension / internal and external rotation. I also do a lot of split stance exercises where one hip is flexed and the other is extended and then switching. I also do lots of core exercises, especially bottom up core exercises like reverse crunches (if you get pain you may need to modify and see if you can find a way to work your core without pain). Stretching and strengthening the psoas can also be good. Reverse kegels are really good and help you learn to breathe into the pelvic floor. The happy baby pose is also commonly prescribed and helps, you can also use your arms to pulse your legs out and in while in happy baby to help move the area. There are also pudendal nerve glides. Sitting on a heating pad can be helpful, just be careful of the heat. As far as psychology goes, pain reprocessing theory can help. You can also experiment with just moving your legs and hips around, trying different back positions and seeing if anything alleviates or causes more pain, it's just a lot of experimentation because medical professionals just dont have many answers. The most effective interventions for me have been the levator ani release with my finger, and pharmacological intervention with pregabalin. MSK neurology has a good article on pelvic pain you can check out as well, he has some exercises specifically for it too.
