Thanks for this. I'm playing around with low light settings, on the OA 4. Although more for trail running (I do occasional MTB'ing) These are the settings I've been playing around with (albeit it for very dark \ night scenarios) Resolution: 4K/16:9 30 FPS Stabilization: Rocksteady (not RS+) Field of view (FOV): Wide or Ultrawide Pro Settings: On Exposure: Auto EV: +0.0 Shutter speed: 1/100 - 1/8000 ISO: range from 100 - 3200 White Balance: Auto (or 3500K for a neon look) Color: Normal (D-Log M for editing) Sharpness: -1 Noise Reduction: +1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Resolution: 4k/16:9 30fps Stabilisation: RS (Rock Steady) Enable Pro Mode Exposure: ISO 100-3200 Shutter: 1/60 (double the frame rate) : recommend ND filter, otherwise shutter on auto WB (white Balance): 4000k Color: Normal 10bit FOV: Wide Sharpness: Default (change will disable low light image enhancement) Noise Reduction: Default (change will disable low light image enhancement) Audio: Channel - Stereo - Noise Reduction Standard Low light image enhancement - Enabled Will give your settings a go as well. Since the latest update with the normal colour profile now 10 bit, I wonder if F-Log M still better for low light?

FYI the top of the action, four does not have a microphone, that is a speaker only. If you look at the manual of the action four, you will see all three microphones are on the bottom, two are on the front where you have the other two dead cats, the third wind noise reduction mic is actually inside the area where the battery door opens. That little slit on the bottom of the door is the 3rd mic, it has the slit to let water out. As you stated high shutter speeds are the key to good stabilization on any action camera. ISO of 1600 is ideal for most but also like you stated 800 ISO is the best for high action scenarios. If you film in D log M and then just increase saturation, you almost don’t have to do anything else. If you want it to look great, sure you can play with highlights, shadows, mid tones, color, temperature, and all that but if you want basic color grade, just boost saturation with the Shutter speeds, being no lower than 200 and the ISO being no higher than 800 in High action situations.

I think it's worth a mention, that if you buy the adventure combo, there is a lens option that allows more light in, which allows for better low light performance, but more importantly, could allow you to lower the ISO even more to get more clarity. I haven't had a chance to test this myself, but perhaps in a few weeks I'll come back to this comment.

Thanks for this. I use my camera for motorcycle rides and haven’t been getting shakiness when on bumpy roads or hitting bumps on smooth roads. I’m hoping that upping the frame rate as you suggest will help. I was using 4K/30FPS and shutter speed of 1/60. I’ll up that to 200 and see what I get. I had all of this dialed in on my Hero 11 but the Osmo 3 is so much more convenient I really want to get this to work.

Hey! Nice solution. I was wondering, if also the magnetic holder doesn’t have to do something with the shaky video. Have you been looking on that? Many channels claim, that the holder is not as stable as the gopro has, since it uses only the screw. Btw I love to see your color grading video! The image you get out of it is insane!

Thanks for posting. I'm new to the action camera thing and bought the action 4. I run in normal color mode because I don't color grade. pretty much just put the videos together in sequence and post with minor editing. 4k30fps. in wide pov. shutter speed had been 1/400-1/8000 and iso at 100-1600 ev at 0.0. wb5500 because I always shoot around 11am to 2 pm. shaprness-1 nr at 0. All of my rides are in the woods kind of like on a MTB. Any idea if I bring the shutter to 1/200-1/8000 and iso 100-800 would be a better quality video if I'm not color grading. last time I filmed my motor ride with my OA4, I saw these weird shifts every now and then (with rocksteady on). Very subtle lasting about a second, sometimes translation wise sometimes orientation wise. Filmed at 4k 30fps, ISO range 100-800, and auto shutter speed if I remember correctly, in DLog mode. Was pretty sunny and all but I was going under trees a lot so ... maybe I'll try other settings next time.

You didn't mention it, but I believe EV comp in the negative range will also help with the stabilization, because if the camera is not trying to make the image quite so bright, that means it won't have to lower the shutter speed and/or increase the ISO as much. On my GoPro Hero 9 in the flat color profile I set it to -1.5. I've found that pretty much keeps it from blowing highlights as well, except when I'm in really dark woods where it'll blow the little bit of the sky that's visible, but it's really not a big deal in that case. Then you can just bring shadows up in post, and I never find that shadows get clipped, even at -1.5.

Mostly. I would say it’s a good starting point, and then experiment with EV comp. The OA3 has a smaller lens than the OA4, so it doesn’t take in as much in low light settings. Because of this the OA4 is always going to do better - but these settings are still a good place to start.

Ugh... I'm a total beginner at cameras and KZitem but I am doing it! Just bought the DJI OA4 as I lost my GoPro Hero 10 on a trail. Love this camera so much more but I am struggling with settings and I have watched about every settings video on YT. I've just done some initial testing around my property and when I go into Pro mode, I'm getting a dark look indoors and a crazy over exposed look outdoors. When I tone that down and play with color in post (also a total beginner) it seems like a fair amount of extra work for not a huge difference in quality of colors. What were your settings in this video in the very beginning? Can I put this OA4 in 4K/60 or 4K/30 with RS on and all else on auto? I am worried about that jittery look you have here. Thanks in advance!

The problem with the settings suggested: exposure is fixed, so if you go from a dark place to normal to bright, the exposure will be wrong in two of those places.
@dirtchurchmtb
Ай бұрын
That would be a problem - except the exposure is not fixed, these settings just “cap” the low end and don’t allow exposure to go to the extremes at the expense of image quality or sharpness. With these settings the exposure still changes from open field into dark forest - just not as much as they would if you left all the settings in auto. I think that trade off is worth it for stabilization - since a lot of the darker images can be corrected later with color grading.

You can limit the range of iso but you cant set range for shutter speed. Only certain value for shutter can be selected. So its better to use ISO range limit 200 - 3200 or bit lower to force the camera work at higher shutter speeds (and let shutter on auto)

@@dirtchurchmtb Selecting auto and some shutter range in settings and then moving your camera to darker and lighter spots you can see that the EV comp changes in upper left corner. But I don't think that EV comp is that a big deal on action cameras anyway, auto does more than enough of a good job. Shutter range is much more important, its basically impossible to use manual shutter speed as everything below 1/400 is useless especially if you use chest mount, could maybe run lower on chin/helmet mount, by so there goes that "double the fps" shutter speed rule out the window if you want to have working stabilization.
