I usually use a mixture of potting soil, perlite, and sometimes chicken grit! I’m about to post a new video where 2 of my pups show up! 🐕

I need to do this with mine and I’m so glad that you reminded me to leave the stems! The first time I did it, I cut the stems off thinking the babies would grow back from the base in the soil, but none of them did… I do have a question though - should I water the pots with the stems, or just leave them alone? Thank you in advance and thank you for sharing! 💜💚🪴🌵

Keep watering the stumps as needed, it won’t take long for babies to pop out of them! I have a whole area of the greenhouse just of pots with stumps, lol

I like your greenhouse and assortment of plants. I watch your videos and how did the plants get leggy/long stem? I read I can use little dilooted water and alcohol and mist for mealy bugs ? Dot

Plants get leggy if either they don’t get enough sun, or if you’ve had them a very very long time (cause bottom leaves die and you pull them off the stem) and over time the stem gets long. I use 70% isopropyl alcohol for mealybugs (no water added) but you need to do it every few days cause more might be hatching from eggs so gotta kill ‘em all

After you cut and pot them. How long before you water them
@SweetSweetSucculents

@@marymckenzie841 I check them after about 2 weeks to see if they have roots. If they do and they look wrinkly or feel floppy I’ll water. If no roots or not thirsty I’ll keep waiting and checking

when better to cut it? summer or winter?
@SweetSweetSucculents

For echeverias, it’s better when it’s warmer and they are not dormant, but I will admit I do it year round. It’ll just take longer to get roots if they are not in their active growing season. It’s always a little hard to tell when you have a greenhouse and to complicate matters, echeveria can go dormant if they get too hot so mid summer can often be bad depending on how hot your climate gets…but like I said, I do it year-round. The main thing is just to make sure it is well watered before cutting because it won’t be able to get anymore until it grows roots. If it’s indoors, you could pretty much do it anytime

The part that I cut off and put in a new pot, I won’t water for a couple of weeks since that’s about how long it takes for them to make roots. I keep watering the leftover stem as usual

You can buy the premade succulent soil at places like Lowe’s and Home Depot but I like to make my own soil using a mix of potting soil and perlite or sometimes chicken grit and you can also get that stuff at Lowe’s,m & Home Depot, and the chicken grit you can get from the tractor supply store
