Here are some general troubleshooting steps in case you have any issues: 1. Did you watch the entire video, and follow the directions exactly? 2. Is the USB drive formatted with FAT32 rather than NTFS or exFAT? 3. Do you have file extensions enabled in Windows Explorer? 4. Did you download the latest BIOS file for your motherboard? 5. Did you rename the BIOS file as MSI.ROM? 6. Is the BIOS file in the root of the USB drive? 7. Is the USB drive in the correct port (the one labeled BIOS)? 8. Are both power supply cables plugged into the motherboard? 9. Did you plug in the USB drive before you turned the power supply on? 10. Are you using a USB 2.0 flash drive instead of a USB 3.0 flash drive (USB 2.0 seems to work better)? 11. Did the BIOS flash LED on the BIOS Flash button flash for 5-6 minutes, and then stop flashing? This blog post has more details, including FAQs: Flashing Your BIOS with No CPU Installed (bit.ly/3kfHjWe) This blog post talks about USB 2.0 drives and how to identify them. Great video. Explained very clearly as the video is shown. I'm about to do my second PC build (first was 6 years ago) and I have this board so coming across this great tutorial was amazing. I look forward to more content, you are a really good instructor.

Hey, The Cmos button in the back of my MEG X570 Unify MB button doesn't flash it starts as dark and then goes solid red. Just the LED on the flash drive flashes. Its been over 15 minutes and the LED on the USB drive is still flashing. I originaly had a 2019 version of the BIOS on there and tried to update it to a current one. It would not POST after that. The 2 digits on the motherboard reads 00. Any ideas?

Are you 100% sure that you downloaded the correct BIOS for your exact motherboard? MSI has the X570 Unify and X570 Unify-X, which are different. BTW, if your system was working with an old BIOS version, the built-in MSI M-Flash utility is easier to use and give you more feedback if their is a problem.

Hi Glenn, Thanks for the info! I recently purchased a MSI X570 MEG ACE mobo, and a Ryzen 9 5900X to upgrade from my X470 MSI M7 AC and 1700X, still using my MSI 1080ti. After I installed my new mobo / cpu, I keep getting no image with the EZ dbug telling me "VGA"...I know that my ram (32GB Trident Z Neo @3600mhz works correctly) as well as my GPU. I followed your steps on flashing the Bios, I've pulled the disk battery on the mobo to clear CMOS...and still nothing. Any tips? I did use a 64GB patriot usb 2.0...but I had the most recent beta Bios update renamed and in the root..seemed to work, but like I said, still no image and VGA lit in debug. Thanks so much

Hi. I tried to run the reisen master optimization program, after that there was a problem. Through the risen master, I tried to reset the settings, but I did not succeed. The question is, if I reinstall the bios - will it help?
@GlennBerrySQL
Жыл бұрын
Flashing the BIOS will reset all of the settings to the default values. But it would be easier to just try clearing the CMOS first, by removing the CMOS battery for a minute and then putting it back in.

Try it and see. Make sure it is formatted with FAT32, not NTFS. If you follow the directions in the video exactly, this works very reliably. If you don't follow the directions, it usually does not work.

Thank you for the fantastic video! I am trying to flash my MSI GODLIKE z490 board which has similar IO ports like this one. However, even though there is a flash bios button there are 2 USB 2.0 ports and brighter are labeled as the bios port. Do you have any advice here?

Followed all the steps to a "T" and the error that returned was "the file needs to have been saved on the bios you're trying to update" or something similar.

One quick question, let's say for whatever reason the bios flashback does not work out the first time (Flash nonstop for 1hour, or stop flashing after few second). Is it safe to pullout the flash drive without corrupting the bios? Is there any steps to make before pulling out the flash drive?

They procedure shown in this video is designed to work even if a previous BIOS flash attempt using a different method failed. It is very important that you follow ALL of the steps exactly. Watching the entire video is a good idea. Are you 100% sure you downloaded the correct BIOS for your exact motherboard model? MSI had a B550 Unify and a Unify-X, which are different models.

@@GlennBerrySQL although I'm almost sure, although this is my first MSI, but all other brands also have many variations of the same model. Most do not accept erroneous UEFI bios files, at least the most current ones. I had already tried updating through flash buttom, after this bug occurred. Maybe I wasn't clear about the problem that happened to me. I had updated normally using the M-Flash manual. it worked normally I updated before any OS. After that I made the rest of the connections, 4x SATA HD 4TB, I occupied all 4 NvME slots. Finally I tried booting with my Windows backup to install the OS and the system restarted by itself. I had simply forgotten to install the CMOS battery, and without a shadow of a doubt the BIOS reset it again. Oh yes, I tried updating again "same M-Flash method" and guess what happened? At 89% completion, the PC restarted again, and then the terror began. It wouldn't clear the bios by removing the battery, shorting out the clear cmos jumper, and finally the buttom flash blinked about 5 times and stopped. I started researching and saw a flood of users with similar problems. I am not a noob at all

I've heard lots of the newer unify-x's have came updated already, is there a way to know before you open the box if this is the case? Thanks.
@GlennBerrySQL
2 жыл бұрын
Not really. If the box has a sticker or logo that says something about being "Ryzen 5000 Series Ready", then the system will probably POST without updating the BIOS using this method. The only way to know for sure is to assemble your system (outside the case if possible) and see if it will POST or not.

What Usb are you using, and does it come with Fat? Or do you need to do something to it

I am using an old 8GB Patriot USB 2.0 drive. Depending on the drive, it might already be formatted with FAT32. If it isn't, you can reformat it with FAT32 (which will erase all the data on your drive).

Does it matter if I have my 5600X already socketed?
@GlennBerrySQL
9 ай бұрын
No, it does not. This will also work on a fully assembled system. Just make sure the system is not "running", i.e. turned on with the case power button. Other than that,, just follow the directions in the video.

Cool. Thanks. Ended up repeating the process w/o the CPU inserted. Mine only "flashes" for 10 seconds and turns off, not 5-6 mins. I guess well see once my GPU gets here. Thanks. @@GlennBerrySQL

@@brucemastiff7390 If it only flashes for a few seconds, then the BIOS flash did not work. The system was unable to find or read the BIOS flash file on your USB drive. It has to be the correct BIOS file with the correct name, located at the root of a USB 2.0 drive that was formatted with FAT32. My advice would be to build your system and see if it will POST. If it will POST, then use the BIOS update utility that is built in to the BIOS setup program to flash your BIOS to the latest version.

This is fun. Dialog on a video is positive. So, I want to say the dude I bought the used board off of said the BIOS was already updated. If I'm just applying a brief update to an already current board, would it only be a quick process? The RX 6700 (non XT) will be here tomorrow. We will see if everything posts and works. @@GlennBerrySQL

@@brucemastiff7390 Anytime you flash the BIOS, it typically takes 5-6 minutes. It doesn't matter if the old BIOS version is recent or not, since it erases it and installs a complete new version.
