To make the water drain faster open the pressure release valve above the drain plug and also open the hot water inside the RV at the faucet.

Thank you for the informative video. Great info. So what was different after ten years? Hard water maybe? Just a thought. Take care.

Thanks for the feedback. Great question. We aren't exactly sure what led to the water smell. We have been RV camping for years and haven't encountered often. It was likely something about the water at the park where we were staying. Since that event, we now drain the hot water heater whenever the camper will be inactive for a few weeks between camping trips. Keep up the good work on your channel, too. Always nice to get helpful info from another RV camper.

I would suggest that you use a 15/16" socket to remove/replace the drain plug. Makes the job much easier and quicker.

Thanks for suggesting using a socket to remove the water heater drain plug. I'll try that next time.

Glad to hear it and thanks for letting us know. One thing we learned since making it is that you can get a water heater tank rinser. It fits on the end of a hose and enables you to better flush the heater. We tried one that was pretty inexpensive but seemed to do a good job.

If the hot water heater is galvanized inside. Vinegar will cause the inside to rust???

Not sure. I think the water heater is aluminum inside. It has a plastic or nylon plug. I have heard the plastic plug is used to prevent galvanic interaction that would occur if a metal plug was used. Since there are several RV water heater manufacturers, it might be best to look up your specific model before trying a flush.

I would leave it alone...do you flush your house water heater? Didn't think so

We had our last camper for 8 years and never had to flush the water heater. However, when we had an issue with smelly water, it did seem to help. We have also learned to drain it when we won't be camping for a while.

Earle I’m not sure what you mean by saying leave it alone and do you flush your home water heater. You should do your home for sure and I flush all the junk out of my rv water heater three times a year. You might be surprised at how much calcium build up is in there. This is called preventative maintenance.

I understand why you don't flush your house water heater because you are on "city water supply" but if you have well water (which many RV campgrounds use and there are many of us whose homes use "well water", which has lots of minerals) you would be wise to flush your "home water heater" to prolong the life of the water heater.

Definitely ratcheted wrench or socket

Agree. A socket wrench with an extension would make the job much easier.
