David Beretta Thanks for this video. I also use a DX6 and will change the toggle to the C switch . Could not for the life of me figure out why I could not get the heli out of stability mode in idle up 1,2,or3. Was about to call HH when I did a search and found your video. The manual says NOTHING about toggling the D switch to release the stability mode! Your video explains everything very clearly. Thank you!

Thank you!!! They should have put that in the manual. Looked all over the forums and nobody address this. Almost bought a different rx to resolve the issue.

I'm confused... the swash should still follow the sticks even if the safe mode has been disabled. ie... Once the safe mode has disabled the swash should go back to a level position because the right stick has been placed back to zero input for aileron and cyclic. Yours does not.

Exactly. Slowly, but it should level out in idle up, too.

The DX8 is a lot better I hear. Even better than the DX9 when it comes to Choppers. It's the most used Transmitter in my Club(I think they call it 8.1). It has a far better programming + other details, and ½ the price of a DX9, if not even cheaper, but same quality and making.

When I set it up to the manual my servos would always go to neutral but would not try to self level when I pick the heli up and move it side to side when in idle up. But when in stability mode the servos would always try to correct it.

This video is eight years old are you still out here somewhere I need help… I'm trying to get stability mode on normal which it is but I also want it on flight mode 1…If you're out here somewhere do you still know how to do that or is it possible… I'm just an older guy that just wants to fly and stability mode but I wanted to be solid if I bang it around hard Rudderr hard climb outs… I wanted to be solid but instability mode. I don't like the low had speed it normally comes with. Everything was spongy and awful for my flying style

Hi David, great video, like they say, a picture says a 1000 word. but just to confirm, your DX6 setup, was that straight from the 230s manual? or have you made some additional tweaks? Thanks

+Mark Huxford Hey Mark, thank you for the kind words! I set the DX6 up just like the manual said to do it for that transmitter. The only deviation from the manual was changing the switch that disables SAFE mode like I showed in the video as it was not mentioned at all in the manual that you can toggle SAFE mode using that channel-switch.

+David Beretta Thanks for replying David, just setup my DX6 ready for tomorrows delivery. Sorry if this seems a daft question but on the Blade website they describe 3 flight modes, Stability, Agility and 3D. Can i assume that these are Normal mode, stunt 1 and stunt 2 on switch B. Reason i ask is when i view the outputs on the monitor screen of the DX6 when in normal mode there seems to be no change or limit to bank angle. Im still a noob to all this so keen to understand whats going on behind the scene's. thanks in advance.

+Mark Huxford I thought the exact same thing until I tried to make the helicopter fly inverted and it would not allow me to bank the helicopter more than about 45 degrees in any direction and once I let go of the stick it would automatically level itself back to 0. That is why I made this video was to show people that there is an extra channel programmed by default onto your D switch which I changed to my C switch to make flying this helicopter inverted a possibility and the fact that your manual does not explain this to you in any way. I will advise you though, if you are new to this hobby then you should stay in SAFE mode while you learn the basics of hover control and orientations and once you become good at that then try it without SAFE mode trying to level the swashplate for you so that you get used to stabilizing the heli in a hover without SAFE helping you. And don't do what I did yesterday and forget you have a Panic Mode switch and then lose your orientation and crash it into the ground haha. Luckily I only cracked my canopy. Happy Flying!

Just a question. My swash tilts really a lot with left up high. After spoolup you can lift of, but my normal mode also does the same. But when i move the sticks the swash stays where it should. When you switch to normal, should the swash not level and not stay in the position of a level swash. My heli want to tilt forward.

Ok so just to confirm, you can still use switch B for your flight-modes, but assign, 'GEAR', to another switch to simply enable/disable SAFE mode?

Hi Dave, I'm a little confused. I setup my DX6 exactly like the 230s manual said. Assigning switch B to channel 5 and I can fly inverted just fine. So does your way still able the to use safe mode? I don't really care if safe mode is disabled if programmed according to the manual, just trying to understand the different programming. Thanks.
@dbbaseball6

+Steve Marks Yes, the way I showed is still able to use SAFE mode when flying the heli in all flight modes. I honestly don't know how yours worked just fine when it came to flying it inverted because mine wouldn't flip over because SAFE mode prevents the swash-plate from allowing it to flip over in my experience with it. That's why i made this video to show where SAFE mode can be disabled and allow you to fly it any way you want while preserving the PANIC mode function.

It would probably be almost exactly the same. Just observe which switches you want to program and assign them accordingly. The GEAR setting is where it all happens and why I made this video. To share that tidbit that the manual left out. They may have added it now on these newer ones but mine did not have that description in the orginal literature.

hi david ,couple things .... i have my dx6 setup per the spm file from horizon . my safe modes are on the b switch . did you have throttle hold on during this video? you must have or the heli would have went in to full power when you switched from safe to stunt . my bind button does nothing ,is there a setting for this somewhere ?
@dbbaseball6

+fnkycoldmedina You have to program the bind button to be the SAFE Mode Recovery switch. The channel mixing instructions for that are in the manual in the setup section for it.

You would have to check the channel assignments and look for the GEAR channel and test that for yourself. I don't have that model, I'm sorry!
