You're completely right in all essence there is no real need for this video. But happy you shared I started flying acro from day 1 it's just like learning how to go from 3-4 channel radio. Try on a sim once or twice get the sticks down and then just practice. I think a lot of people are afraid of crashing or going too fast. start slow and small exactly how you showed in this video. You'll get comfortable and start moving up at your own pace.

Well I’m glad you made this video because people like me just getting into racing quads don’t know all about angle mode or any of the other modes in beta flight and I sure don’t so please keep making these teaching videos like this cause there will always be a need for teaching tools like this one. I wish someone will make a video for setting up angle mode on beta flight and then take it outside and then show us what the quad does in angle mode and in acro mode etc, because there is people that needs to learn and we can only do that by being taught by people like you and everyone that does fly now at one time they didn’t know how or what at all. Thank you very much sir.

I know it's a matter of practice, but in FPV acro is totally natural to me. Time on a sim helped. But aircraft (real ones), are just rate mode. You roll into a bank at a rate determined by the stick pressure, neutralize when you're where you want, and then roll it back to straight and level (or where ever). Self leveling would horrify me. But the first thing a flight instructor shows a student is an airplane's natural stability. The absence of that in a quad, and the orientation difficulties blows my mind. "Soft ground" is a great tip. LOL I think this video does need to be made because it gives a nice methodical approach to channel your practice time. Which I need to bite the bullet and get experience. LOS YOU ARE A WIZARD. Your high performance quad videos are completely amazing. Flying a little spec. Great!

@@jodroboxes Yeah if your video ever just dies ur screwed... I feel the same way.... Although I can't afford FPV goggles anyway an have yet to even try FPV mode xD But the shit you can do LOS freestyle is FAR better and more awesome to see than FPV freestyle. In fact FPV should stick with races and cool building dives... freestyle FPV is more geared toward the pilot and less for the audience IMO. Some shit is really cool like diving through small gaps and some other things.... but compared to freestyle in LOS, FPV can't even hold a candle to the awesomeness.

There is a significant need for this video. Watch a brand new quad flyer fly in acro LOS. 5 second maximum flight time. Than they dont want to fly again. EXCELLENT video very detailed. Previous commentor said about a sim and thats a very good idea! And I would like to see a video about setting slow rates, if I have not missed it already. Best Acro LOS videos I have seen. I smash up my quad over two weeks flying in a warehouse for 10 batteries after work every evening. to get competent in acro. If you dont know orientation or are brand new use horizon till you like your flying. Then switch to acro and learn that you have to pull back below centre on pitch to turm without nose diving into the floor.

I bought four different 20$ to $40 quads that did flips, 2 speed etc. and flew them in my house for about 6 months. Totally crashed and beat the crap out of them at first but I got the idea. I just got back from throwing $200 up in the air for the first time. MAN! What a blast!! Crashed it 3 times but at least I knew to kill it instead of freezing up. What I can say is, the tall soft grass saved my quad and all that practice paid off. Super Fun! and damn scary a few times haha.

Very good explanation and demonstration. For all of you who want to learn acro mode,it's much better to start with a simulator first, for two main reasons really. 1. Even though the drone is a toy,it's extremely dangerous, the slightest disorientation can turn into a really bad situation,if you lose control, the drone can turn into a weapon. The props spinning at such a great speed can cause severe damage,I'm not going to go into details ,but you can imagine what it can do to your face or other parts of your body and of course it can be danger to others as well. 2. It could be very expensive to start the "real thing" right away.If you just go straight for the real drone, prepare for a very disappointing experience. If you keep crashing the drone,it will not take too many crashes before the need for reparation. I know that what I wrote "sounds" terrible, but it's the honest truth and it's for your own good as well as others'.

Sure, the flight charateristics are very different, depend on the quad and the wind ect... FPV Freerider is a pretty good one for learning: Acro and high rates on is nice to give you an idea what you are going to fly (Real quad is actually much faster but you definetly cant fly acro for the first time without destroying it) and the simulator is a must have for the people who have never flown acro and are about to build a race quad for the first time to have some fun doing nice fast moves and recording videos, its really better to try in the simulator first so they can learn the basics before they go out and crash after 3 seconds with so much power.

Please keep up your amazing videos. LTRIP!™

Great video! LOS has always been hard. Especially as the distance increases. Hopefully I can watch and learn how to perform some of the great maneuvers you do.

Nice. I'm glad that you also use the "imagine being in the pilot seat". I was always wondering if it's the best apporach or if there's something better.

I have the MJX Bugs 3 and it has a large front LED that you can see from quite a distance, I find this is great for orientation. The other obvious way is to watch which way the quad is tilting! Cheers

Just ordered my first fpv goggles, visionplus from hobby king. I am looking forward to starting some fpv flying, I can now fly pretty well LOS with the bugs 3 but struggle to use a monitor doing fpv. I am hoping it's an easier experience with the goggles! Thanks for the great vid!

Great video 👌. I have a Dromida Ominous, before I clicked on the video I wondered if it would be good for acro training lol. I'd love to see you use the Ominous in a training video to see what it can do in your hands. Looking forward to part 2. Thx Dod.

Yeah, a toy quad like that which offers arco mode would be great to learn on, especially with the awesome orientation of it. My Ominus is pretty much broken though :/

LOS is the way to go since EU regulation is not allowing you to fly FPV without a spotter. I find this tuto very helpful, thx

Yeah, surprising how many more people are proficient in FPV than LOS, we need to change that ;)

With my ancient eyesight, different colour props or lights don't really help with orientation. What does help is to put a fin on the model. Maybe I've been flying fixed wing too long.

Dude. U are Amazing the way u fly these quads. I hope one day I can fly like u. How long u been flying for?? I've been flying Dji drones for few years. But these are way different. Love ur videos man. Much better than all the rest that tell u to keep going up and down for 20 batteries. Lol

Nice vid, it's certainly going to help a lot of people. Coordinated turns have always been a problem for me whilst in LOS acro. Quad always slides out of the turn due to not enough roll input then I over correct and crash nearly every time. It'll be interesting to hear your thoughts on that in a future video. Orientation for me is no problem in self level, just problematic in acro. FPV acro is a breeze in comparison. Must practice LOS more.

Yeah, sliding out needs more roll and pitch. I do banked turns in part 2

I have been flying R/C since the 70's and by FAR the thing that confounds beginners to flying ANY sort of model is the pilots fixed position relative to the moving model. The secret to mastering this is so simple that it blows most peoples minds once they figure it out... OK, lets see if I can explain this. When flying away from yourself push the stick(s) in the direction you want to turn, simple enough. When flying back towards yourself , if the model is banked and turning you will need to input opposite roll/yaw to level it out. THIS is what gets every beginner because they are too busy THINKING about it(the model is coming at me, right and left are reversed..oh crap), you don't have time to think about it really and if you get it wrong you will roll the model inverted and then your usually done for the day. So what is the secret? First of all, FORGET about left and right with regard to the model itself, it has wings or rotors, no right or left as far as we are concerned, YOU have a right and a left, reference yourself to the model ONLY, never the other way around. Your NOT inside the model during LOS control so stop trying to imagine you are. When the model is coming at you it will either be wings level, rolling left or rolling right. If it is wings level and on a heading you want, let it fly, if it is in a roll and you want to level it(stop the turn/roll) simply push your roll/yaw input towards the LOWER side. Example, a model is flying towards me and the left wing (the one pointing towards MY left looking at the model) is low, push the sticks to the (again MY left side) LEFT and the model will level out. The only time this doesn't work is when the model is oriented with you so that your directly 90 degrees to the left or right of the model. This really isn't a big deal since most of the time the model is moving forward and as it passes by, you simply transition from viewing it nose on to tail on flying away from you as it fly's past. This always works and once you actually do it the skill will stick in your mind like riding a bike, you never have to think about it or worry about forgetting it.

Awesome work helped me a lot I thought acro mode was going to be harder than it was, still scared the shit out of me switching level mode off though :) but you gave me the confidence to do it and I thank you very much. Found over correcting movements the hardest thing to get better at, to much throttle then not enough, to much roll then to much roll the other way after a few times of this usually hitting the ground. I have done a few hours on Sims, freerider seems a lot more realistic than DRL . Joshua Bardwell has some good video's for Freerider

Yeah, over correction is the number one issue when starting, which is why lowering your rates or power curve can help.
@jaredturner4089

Yeah a lot of people say that and I have watched a lot of PID tuning video's but still have no idea what rates to adjust. I was flying LOS this morning and it wasn't to bad I stopped getting scared and bailing out as that's when I usually had my biggest crashes and usually I could recover it. Thanks for the reply.
