Finally! An explanation that makes sense. Would have been so helpful 30 years ago.

I have been trying to find a simple explanation of the manual focus lens. This is the best explanation - simple, clear and effective. Thanks a lot.

Awesome video I just ran into the issue while the half black circle I’m very new to film just shot my 1st roll but didn’t use my zoom lens because of the black circle my only other question is will the black be in the image if or does it just effect ur viewing
@orcatype225

Hi there! The black circle only affects the focusing on the viewfinder. It will not appear on the final image

Excellent video! Which methods of focusing are used by the OM2? I'm thinking about buying one. Thank you!

Hi there, if your camera comes with the default focusing screen, all three methods can be used as shown in the video :D

Thank you very much for the great video! Can you tell something about the possible precision of manual focus? For example when I try to focus with my Minolta XD7 (or XD or X11 depending on which continent you're on) and the 50mm f1.4 lens, I tried to focus my subject in around 1.5m distance. The depth of field at this distance is a little less than 10cm. Now if I focus this subject 3 times and take a picture each time I get one sharp and two blurry pictures which are focused maybe 10cm behind my subject. So it's more or less a game of chance, if I hit or miss. Is this normal and what is the precision that can be achieved with manual focus?

Usually manual focus can be quite accurate. The focusing aids are usually very accurate when nailing the focus. To improve accuracy, the photographer’s eyesight also needs to be accurate as well

I just started film camera photography.. it takes a while for me to manual focus.. i guess it is just a learning curve.. unlike using digital camera i can just snap snap snap

Agreed! I used to have difficulty manual focusing. Quite a handful of shots I took were blurry when I just got started. All the best in your film photo journey :D
