I do like Hockey pucks to avoid damage. Can shape them to fit over sill lip, and stack them with small locating bolt. Also add a bolted on socket through the middle to make a locating pin so it can't walk off. Not done my Mondeo yet so many thanks Chazz for video.

Axel stands, only ever use 2 at a time (can be 2 at the front or 2 at the back, or 2 on one side) Block the remaining wheels, so they can not move. NEVER USE 4 JACKS, if the car rocks all 4 jack could tilt over with you under neath it, CRUNCH. Rubber pucks with a slot cut in it are handy. I like to use car stands with pins. Always make sure the load point is positioned in the centre of the car stand ( by that i mean in the centre of the top U bracket of the jack stand) thats important if you use the welded seam at the rear of the car. Putting the load off centre, or on only one of the U edged could cause the jack to roll over, CRUNCH. My dad used to always put a wheel under the car too, but he is old school.(Pick a wheel wider than your body). One last thing, If you are going to work under a car alone, phone a friend first, tell him how long the job is going to take, tell him you will ring him at that time. (Tell him if he does not get a phone call at that time, that you may be trapped under the car). There is nothing worse than being trapped under your car, knowing you left the mobile phone in the house.

That axle stand is right at the weak point formed by the hole. Also there needs to be some sort of cushion to prevent deforming that rail. Those pucks are the Biz!

that hokey puck idea is priceless! I have always wondered why the jack point has that seem that runs across it, and it seems every time I jack a car up with a floor jack I bend the seem. Lifting the car and figuring out how to place the stands has always been the most perilous task for me. I'm not really the best at this sort of thing.

It seems *EVERYONE* has Halfords axle stands lol. Me included, but I'm not sure about them as they tent to tink a lot when they're under load. And that bolt you say don't use, it should be fine because it's a structural point and they are skirted so any weight is on the actual sub frame rather than just the bolt but I get what you mean about putting stress on the threads.

@amblernectar

The bolt isn't ok to use. Reason being it stresses the nut which is only lightly welded to the floorpan. If you break it free it's a bloody nightmare to cut a hole in the floor (from above or beside) to weld it back in place again. Its only one of four that hole the front subframe to the floorpan so it pays to be cautious with them.

Then just place the jack on the frame...which is where he noted to put your jack stand...Jack it up, place the jack stand just in front of the jack and let the jack down jut to where the weight is on the stand.
