Once you know how to form a minor triad (by lowering the 3rd in a major triad) it's easy to form a diminished triad. All you do is lower the 3rd and the 5th 1/2 step. For example, the C major chord is C, E, G. So C diminished triad is C, Eb, and Gb. To form a 4-note diminished chord also add a 7th which is double-flatted - in this case Bbb - equal to A.
