Better solution to matching holes is getting a very inexpensive set of transfer points. Screw them into rivnuts and position board in place and press board in place. It produces marks in the wood that is most accurate.

Omg this is going to change my framing idea.. This looks and feels so much better than using self tappers like I was previously planning. My first build hah wish me luckk!

Glad it was helpful! And good luck with your van build, our only advice is that you can only research so much before you gotta rip the bandage off and start drilling holes! lol

Awesome guys! I’m really digging the candid nature of this build series. It makes for real easy viewing! Keep it up! Tip: If your finding you are needing heaps of nutserts/rivnuts, I would suggest look at a powered gun. Wether pneumatic (if you have air handy) or electric. I recall seeing cordless drill attachments a while back. Unless of course you enjoy the bicep workout 😂

Stick the wood on with double sided tape. Then use a drill to drill the holes through the wood and metal. Wala! Holes all aligned!

I like the river nuts and t nut idea. I would have gone to the side of the overhead metal van trusses though. No problems with alignment. Also does not decrease roof height

Great work! Thanks for sharing your experiences through all this! Love it! Love the red van; ours is red too, we just saw it yesterday. The time and care you're taking to do this, while figuring it out along the way - just awesome! Enjoy the journey!

We are so happy to hear more people are buying red vans! It's like a brotherhood against boring white and grey vans on the road lol - Appreciate the comment! We've spent quite some time with this build, researching, planning, going back to the drawing boards, everything! Hopefully there is something in here that helps!

@@katieandjoeonthego Totally agree! Love the dually! We didn't need the additional capabilities, and coincidentally configured it as such to have a high payload. I've been looking at various ways people are building - weighing the pros and cons of each and how it may pertain to my build. Mine's been a long time coming, since we're not #vanlife people, but rather it's meant to be a great road trip vehicle with some RV functionality. But plans to put in shelving, or insulate, or super comfy "recliners" (aka custom seats) for long road trips... =)

How come you didn’t use the M8 upfit points already in your van along with the ones you put in? I have a Ford Transit I use for remodeling homes, and using the existing nuts already there are great. Just wondering.

It might not have been clear, but we did use the M8s but wanted addition support so added additional inserts.

Revnuts are not engineered to be used over and over again you screw it once leave it alone if you remove it more than a few times or more, your risky spinning the renut. Great video by the way

I would've drilled oval holes on most of the holes, and round holes on 2-3 of them. Then attach the framing through the oval holes first so you can slide the frame left-right as needed to align the round holes perfectly with their rib nuts. The oval holes would've worked for the roof frame too.
