By now I sold most of my digital pedals… with the iPad I have way more processing power than any of these metal island minicomputers that they sell for almost the same price as an iPad, per pedal… I use mostly Tonebridge and miRack at this point, for me it’s fun to create my own effects this way.

Chow Tape is an amazing plug-in. I never used it for lo-fi stuff myself, but for more subtle tape effects which it can do very good as well. For lo-fi stuff I usually go for iZotope Vinyl. Also free, and does the whole vinyl degrading thing quite well. Not quite the same, but in the same ball park.

I use SketchCassette2 for this stuff. Not free but not expensive and I love the sound. Not a tape machine but cassette player. The same company has Digitalis which is great for stuff like this.

Have been debating this pedal for months, but the latency is a dealbreaker. Very surprised other reviewers haven’t mentioned this. I do think that digital pedal makers need to start publishing latency and A/D/A specs more explicitly. I tend to stick with analog pedals for this reason. Thanks for an excellent video.

I'm not sure how you could do this in a pedal without some latency due to the processing. Old tape cassette recorders that are semi-broken with wow & flutter issues are tools I use a lot, though not each item for long as they often break beyond use, and I don't see how any pedal could process the input instantly to give the effect. As to the accuracy of the stereo image on the pedal, it's not like any of the stereo cassette decks I've used, there was much more irregular warping on the alternate stereo channel. but for mono purposes it's very accurate for vcr recordings and it's in the ball park accurate for any semi-broken cassette decks I have used, for a pedal.

The latency is definitely in there and at a fixed variable purposefully, it causes a chorus effect but yeah has the unfortunate side effect of doubling percussive sounds also. Chase bliss recently released and alternate firmware where it tightens the latency to be more of a flange type effect and sounds better on drums. Also maybe worth noting spread is only autopan in the classic mode, in the normal mode it is the failure algorithm being run twice for a true stereo image effect. (I should note I don't own or plan on owning a gen loss mk1 or 2)

I have recently been fascinated with the pedal effect market, it seems to me a driving factor is pure aesthetics, which is totally legit but its lead me to wonder how often the price reflects closely to the labor put into creating this or that effect. as an example I can appreciate a hand built point to point analog circuit and understand well why it's price is what it is, the same is true for a well laid out pcb inside a beautiful enclosure, but somewhere in there is a bunch of wiggle room where one is bound to ask what they can get away with in pricing. It's not the fault of the pedal builder, or the buyer of course, they're both confined by market forces (for better or worse) Your ethos is akin to the DIY mentality and I love it (well no, it is DIY, Your sampler is great!) , it forgoes any trickery our minds might be subjected to by mojo parts and good youtube marketing demos, it drives at the heart of what it is we, or at least I am aiming for, to make art how we want to make it.

The truth is you can promote a product however you want. If it's a small run guitar brand, then you can say it's built or designed by someone who also plays bit guitar, then promote it as a master built line, limited universally and sell it at $10000+, but in reality they're just a different guitar, trying to grab as much money as you have. And I just choose the way I like the most.
@playpm

Oh btw, I believe those PCB boards are all created by CNC machine, including soldering, can be super cheap with batch run, only assembling requires human labour, which can also be super cheap if you do it in Asia, with $150 we can assemble you an iPhone.

Earned a sub for pointing out my favorite thing to point out to gear hoarders; all digital pedals are selling you cheap, low power computers for way too much money. An iPad will run ALL the effects I could stand to stack on top of each other and only generate latency one time for a lot less money.

Awesome. I love people not only explaining how to do something cheaper/for free, but explaining what is actually going on too. Any tool you actually know how to use is more useful than one you barely understand after all. More folks need to do exactly what you're doing. I salute you. On a personal note: I remember looking at the prices for a LoFi Junky pedal and realizing I could buy multiple multi-effects pedals for the price of one LJ and recreate the sound with any one of those. An old digitech RP100 (one of the most scoffed at pedals among snobs) cost me $60 and was way, way more useful even JUST for that one effect, let alone the practically infinite other combinations. I know there's a Zoom pedal that's a bit better too, but this one is totally fine.
