Can confirm this actually works! When I was 11, I was obsessed with making friendship bracelets. I was travelling with my mum from London to New York, which was quite a long flight, so I brought my bracelet making kit to keep myself occupied. The flight attendants saw me making bracelets and said that they looked nice, so I ended up making bracelets for all of them. Half way through the flight, one of the flight attendants came over to our seats and invited my mum and I up into first class for about an hour and a half. They gave us nice food, spent time talking to us and then I got to meet the pilot of the plane! I remember feeling like such an important person. The pilot even asked my mum out on a date xD Edit: Hey everyone?! I completely forgot about this comment and I’ve come back and it has 16k?!? Thank you so much! Just one thing I wanna clear up: no, my mum did not end up going out with the married pilot lol. Infidelity is not her style xD

I can tell you this works. I work with the public and I know professionals that cater to customers are often stressed, abused, and underappreciated. Chocolates from the dollarstore work wonders An announcement before the flight told us they were short on bottled water so asked everyone to fill up their bottles before hand. When I got on the plane I gave away all my chocolates and was offered bottled water and free food. A little kindness and appreciation goes a long way.

Trust me, you don’t. You make, like, 40,000 dollars a year, which seems like a lot now but definitely won’t pay the rent let alone get you vacations. I suggest going to college and getting a well-paying, good job that interests you and is way less stressful. Remember, it comes down to your decision, because I am simply making a suggestion. If you wish to become a flight attendant, then sure, whatever makes you happy! But you may have to get a side job, just saying. Also, I know I am just a random person that is (somewhat) interfering with your future, but I like making suggestions.

Once my flight got cancelled and I lost my exit row seats (both legs of the flight) when I was lumped onto another flight with lots of people. The attendant told me to ask one of the attendants on the connecting flight to ''see what they could do'. I also made sure that very polite conversation took as long as possible and I kept my hands clasped so they couldn't just stick the new boarding pass in my hand and send me off. For the connecting flight I was just polite and explained the situation, making sure to approach when no one else was around. Before boarding, he moved me out of a middle seat to an aisle seat, which was better than nothing. On my trip back I was upgraded to Prem Economy without asking. Air France LHR - NRT return via CDG. My opinion is if you are polite and cause the least fuss then you can turn a bad situation to your advantage. Unless you have high freq flyer status you won't be upgraded without something bad happening.

I was flying from Moscow to Japan with JAL and I didn´t really like the food options onboard - yeah, they didn´t have chicken. The flight attendant apologized and i told her that it was not her fault what kind of food is being offered. A few minutes later she returned with a huge basket of snacks, that lasted me for days. I still remember her to this day and how she made my day with such a nice gesture :)

It should be a clue of how hard they work that the term "emotional labour" -- the hard emotional work women are expected to do to handle the emotions of others (especially men) while perfectly handling their own -- was actually coined from observing flight attendants doing exactly this for their (mostly male) passengers. @@MsNatalieB That's pretty much what politeness is. You do something nice, not because it's a nice thing, but because you expect a certain outcome. Like holding a door to get someone to say thank you. Or saying thank you to get someone to say you're welcome.
@MsNatalieB

@@smol-one those are two very similar answers in basic manners. Less to do with niceness, more because it’s polite. I mean these specific examples of giving something because you expect to receive something in return. The video implied if you give a gift to an air steward(ess) you would get an upgrade. If you give something whether that be your time, or something physically and expect something in return it’s no longer because you were being nice it’s kind of manipulative behaviour - I did this for you so you should do this for me.
