Hi Phillip! If I want to learn about Automotive Electric Vehicle Engineering/mechanics where is the best College to go to near San Francisco-San Jose somewhere in between that area? Or any other advice on what I should do? Pls

@@edwinosujaki2291 Great question! I don't know that area well enough to recommend a university. Though, all I can say is go to an ABET accredited engineering school that offers FSAE or BAJA club. Also, you can see which universities placed the highest in the FSAE competition and that will give you a better idea of which schools (In that San Fran-San Jose area, if they competed) are good for automotive engineering. Some general advise regarding automotive engineering. 1) I see a lot of OEMs going towards EV, so it's good that you want to go towards this career path. 2) You should generalize your engineering degree with either going for "Mechanical" or "Electrical". Don't major in "Automotive Engineer" unless you a know for sure you're going to be in that industry for the rest of your career. For example, It's better to be a Mechanical Engineer and specialize later on. That way you can still venture into different sectors of engineering if you choose so. 3) If you do Electrical Engineering, you'll have to join FSAE or BAJA to get that "mechanical" hands on experience to be well balanced when you graduate. 4) Get the best grades you possibly can, and if your GPA isn't high enough, get relative automotive experience(Side projects/part time jobs)...and try to intern for an automotive OEM if you can....though they generally require a 3.0 GPA or above. 5) Just keep trying. You'll get there in the end! It's difficult, but very rewarding. These are just somethings I would have done differently. Do your own research and take what I say with salt...I'm just some guy on KZitem haha.

Hii bro.... if I want to be an automotive engineer after finishing the mechanical engineering degree. Is it compulsory to get an internship experience in the automotive industry. Bcz in my country its hard to find a better place to get it
@phillipmoua9805
3 жыл бұрын
@@mohammedaqeel5919 I completely understand your mindset of getting an internship, but it is not compulsory! I believe it's a great idea to start as an intern though because that's what I did! I've met a few MEs who started as interns even with their 4 year degrees. It is not common, but it can help you getting into the automotive industry! Look at an internship for what it is. Two parties, (you and the company), don't know each other. So there's a lot less risk on both parties ends. Maybe you hate it there? And if you do, now you know what you don't like. You aren't "stuck" there as an intern. And if you do great, then they can bring you on full time and NOW that you both know your value, you can negotiate your salary to reflect your worth. But being stuck as an intern can also suck. I know someone who was an intern for 2 years before they brought him on full time. If they keep stringing you along, it may be time to find employment elsewhere? You've got to determine what is best for your situation. I don't know the industry where you're at, so I can only speak about being an intern over in the USA. I would hope most of the things I mentioned can transfer over, but I don't know. To answer your question though haha (short story long), you do NOT need to get an internship to get into the automotive industry, but if you did get an internship, it would help you with experience!

Once you're in the automotive industry, you'll find that it's slightly easier to move around within the field. Get some real world experience your last year and hopefully you'll land a job related in the automotive industry. It's hard, I know....but we've gotta be resilient. The best of luck with your career!

I’d love to become an automotive engineer, I’m just not sure what route I should take. I don’t know if I should go to a 2 year community college for mechanical engineering or a technical school to learn hands on first, I would like to learn hands on experience for me but also if I need it for my career, I’m not sure which route I should go down?
@phillipmoua9805

Hey Run, From what I found with going to a community college or technical school first, and then finishing that 2 year program, is that some people get comfortable after graduating and start working. If you're set with going into the automotive industry as an engineering, you need to finish with your 4 year degree. I can't speak on going to a technical school, but I can about going to community college because it helped with my academics, and my overall engineering career. (future video here shortly). I went to community college first, but I got my Associates in Science and transferred for Mechanical Engineering. I got my hands on experience with my own cars, personal projects, and the school's FSAE club. You can always get hands on experience by joining FSAE or BAJA for "true" automotive experience as a student. So I don't think either option is wrong, but if you want to transfer to a university....you need to make sure your credits will transfer over. I don't know if the technical school stuff will transfer over, but I know the community college classes will (certain classes). Ultimately it's up to you, but I would go with the college route, community or university, and get hands on experience on my own time, or join clubs. I hope this helped, and good luck!

Hey man love your videos ... I just graduated my automotive systems technology on a two year community college CPCC... currently I’m working as a mechanic... @phillipmoua9805
3 жыл бұрын
Hey A-Reece, GO for it! It seems like you're smart enough to get a 3.6 GPA, and you have hands on experience...which is a plus! For example, moment (torque) problems may come more naturally for you because you've used a wrench. For sure get your engineering degree! You have a good chance at getting your engineering degree. You just really have to be determined. Even if you go part time for engineering, you've gotta see where you want to be later down your career path, and stick with that goal. I would advise you to research a mechanical engineering program that appeals to you. UNC Charlotte would be a good school if you wanted to stay local, but see what other options are out there for you! Think of this...if you want to go back to school, but you're worried about something, (it could be anything arbitrary), and this something is holding you back.....time still goes on regardless. 6 years will be here before we know it. You might as well be an engineer in 6 years than thinking "I should have started school 6 years ago." Good luck on your journey! If you need anything else, just let me know!

What about people who graduated with a 3.0+ gpa. No experience, no internships. What do you recommend. Jobs related to engineering? if so which types. l
@phillipmoua9805
3 жыл бұрын
JB, It's funny you mention this because I know a few people who did very well in engineering, no internship/experience....and couldn't find a job after graduating. They eventually found something, but it took them months. On the other hand, I know people who did well in engineering, no experience, and landed a job before graduating. It comes down to behavioral qualifications. So just because you have a high GPA, this doesn't give you a green light for a job. Having a high GPA is just a small indicator that you're a fast and good learner, but it doesn't make you a good employee. I hate to say this, but some of the hiring process relies on human/behavioral qualities. So if you don't work well with others....or know people with high GPAs that are really hard to work with in class....that's not a good sign. For jobs....try to work in the engineering field. Do whatever you can to get experience related to your field. If you can't find an engineering company to intern with....I'd rather you work an an AutoZone/ auto parts store, than a McDonald's. At least you're working with customers, car parts, fasteners, sealants, things related to automotive. (Apply this to your specific field of study)

@phillipmoua9805
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Lucky vamsi, It's good that you want to be in the design field, so you know this much about yourself! I think tool design is very complex and there's a lot that goes into tooling and mold analysis. And product design sounds pretty cool as well! Could you continue your education with a general "Master's in Design Engineering" ? This way you can still diverge into different sectors later on in your career? I guess, to decide what you're going to study your masters in....you've gotta do some more "soul searching" and determine what makes you happy to be an engineer. I didn't want to get a masters because I didn't know what I wanted to continue studying, so I'm not much help here. I know this answer isn't the greatest, but I think you need to do a bit more research on yourself. It's great that you want to be in the design field, but now hone in on what sector(s) interests you more. I think any niche you decide to study in the design field will be awesome! I'm sure there are things that can translate from one field of design to the next. Don't beat yourself up too much about this. You're about to get your Master's. You've got it! Good luck with your studies!!

@@phillipmoua9805 Hey Im in the same boat as u, 2.66 GPA Electrical Engineering. DO you think I can land a job? Also how to get a internship with low gpa? Should I state my engineering gpa instead of my cumulative gpa on my resume?
@phillipmoua9805
3 жыл бұрын
@@ImPewPew4 It's very frustrating and scary. I understand you completely. You can still land a job, so don't think otherwise. You'll graduate as an EE. That's significantly harder than ME. And there's a lot of push for EV from automakers, so you potential there! If you want an internship, I would do some research on smaller companies that are looking for engineering interns. You may be lucky, like myself, and stumble across a small company that is in your field who is searching for an EE intern. You'll have a better chance at landing an internship at a smaller company, and make sure you have more relevant experience than school work on your resume. A personal electrical project for example. The design process you went through, and lessons learned to improve upon. You should NOT state your GPA on your resume if it's below a 3.0, cumulative or major specific. Once you get an interview and they ask about your GPA, tell them why you're GPA is low, but tell them in a meaningful way. For example, for myself. My GPA was 2.77 because the engineering work load was difficult for myself to handle along side FSAE. I did my best at the time, but after I dropped FSAE, I was able to do better my later academic years. (Show your transcript for proof if you can). And because my GPA was already so low, making good grades at the end of my academic career didn't help me. I hope this helped out. You can make it in the end, you've just gotta keep trying!
