The Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO) forever changed Louisianas wetlands east of the Mississippi River when it was completed in the 1960s.
It also changed how quickly inshore anglers could access the "outside" of the marsh, providing the straightest possible route to the Gulf of Mexico.
But in 2009 the MRGO was permanently closed to shipping with the construction of a rock dam built in alignment with the natural ridge of Bayou La Loutre near Hopedale, Louisiana.
This once again changed the hydrology of the surrounding area, as well as how inshore anglers could navigate to their favorite fishing spots.
Traveling to the south side of the MRGO Rock Dam is a trip with more than a few turns and - typical of Louisiana's marsh - hazardous shallow water and blind turns.
In this video I show you how to get around the MRGO Rock Dam by way of Brady Lagoon, as well as other considerations to take on this eight mile journey.
