Track ≠ Drift Track Not that hard to understand... Guess what.. If you start normal racing at a drift event you will get banned. How unexpected.
@nicklibby3784
9 ай бұрын
Its not a normal track, its a toll road - that's not just word play or semantics either the nurgburgring is EXTREMELY long. The fastest times are 7 minutes PER lap - and thats with tricked out prototype race cars. So your average car is gonna 15 minutes or more. Why does this matter for drifting? Well the long distance makes wrecks much much harder to deal with. Not to mention you are MUCH more likely to wreck drifting on the nurgburgring because the track was around BEFORE ww2 ! The track is almost 100 years old, it is known for being extremely BUMPY (which is very dangerous for drifting) and also the old track design goes over crazy elevation changes which arent common in modern tracks, so that also makes drifting much more dangerous. Last reason, the track is so long, it will take you weeks to learn and remember all of the corners which is absolutely vital if you want to drift because this track has tons of blind cornes AND corners that look very similar but are different so they can easily be confused as to what corner your on. Allowing people to drift on the nordschliefe(the toll road part of the nurgburgring open to the public) is just a disaster waiting to happen: 1. extremely long track, hard to get to wrecks to help or cleanup 2. track is almost 100 years old, very bumpy, and lots of unsafe corners - typical of 1920s tracks. & steep rapid elevation changes - all bad for drifting. 3. so many corners to remember, many are blind corners, and some corners look very similar and can be confused with each other causing accidents. Drifting into a corner you dont know extremely well is very dangerous here. 4. This track is extremely fast paced, and the layout makes you drive in a "thread the needle" kind of way, which means passing cars is just not really possible on many parts of the track - especially when the car ahead is sideways......so it slows everone down - potentially causing accidents behind tge drifter, because DRIFTING IS SLOW. Drifting will ALWAYS be slower than racing the line normally, and drifting also limits the opportunity for other cars to pass them - they create a smoke screen blinding drivers and take up half the track, and their car is breaking traction constantly by drifting making the car more unpredictable and dangerous. It just makes since people can not drift on this track. DRIFTING IS SUPER SLOW compared to racing the line, it causes traffic jams, creates smoke blinding drivers behind who want to pass the slow drifting car, and they take up half the road and people can't pass. Dont get me wrong, you are allowed to break traction and do little powerslide to rotate your car on to the racing line because that's not drifting and it's what real race car drivers do because it is actual fast or faster on some corners in some situations with some cars. Drifting is losing traction just because you want to even though its slower, but power sliding and using oversteer to rotate the car actually has a purpose and can be faster
@GrandpaWazi
9 ай бұрын
For those that don't understand it's due to what drifting does to track conditions. The spinning and sliding of the tires clog and abrade the track with melted rubber. Over time with more drifting this builds and becomes a serious issue at high speeds around apexs to maintain traction. This is why it costs more to go to drift track most of the time. The maintenance is much higher to keep the track conditions safe for all drivers. Edit: As my comment seems to have many confused if willing to take the time to educate yourself here is a phenomenal video on what drifting really does to race tracks that goes far beyond just the rubber issue. kzitem.info/news/bejne/wHl5lqCFj1-fnGk

You drift on designated days. The reason you can't on regular days is because drifting leaves a residue of rubber on the track which makes the track less safe for other cars that are cornering at high speeds, and it the track has to close at regular intervals to allow the maintenance team to clean and remove this residue.

Negative Effects of Drifters: 1. Track Wear: Drifting can lead to accelerated track surface wear, as the tires create additional friction, causing more rapid deterioration. 2. Increased Maintenance Costs: The higher wear and tear on the track due to drifting can result in increased maintenance costs, such as repaving or resurfacing. 3. Safety Concerns: Drifting may involve higher risk, as vehicles operate in a more unpredictable manner, potentially leading to accidents. To mitigate the negative effects and control costs, some tracks may implement regulations, limit drifting events, or require specific tires to minimize track damage.

The Nürburgring is not a track in this case however because it's a toll road whenever civilians are driving there. That means all the regular street laws are in effect and then you have the additional rules of the ring. Both don't allow this behaviour.

Also he’s on a grip track. If he drifted on a drift track maybe he could hold longer and get some good runs but when people to drive fast legally, the last thing they want is to behind someone pulling a sideways drift leaving them to inhale the smoke.

@guyonheadphones I think he just needed more power(or skill lol). Just look at Kunimitsu Takahashi back in the beginning of the sport, drifting a relatively low powered Japanese coupe on public highways(which would be very analogous to a grip track) and he'd hold for essentially miles lol
