To my knowledge, per individual citizen can invest upto S$200,000 maximum . Not more than that and one never gets full allocation on single application due to heavy subscription/competition. Hence you can buy em little by little but with the ever changing return rates.

There's no capital gains tax for stocks in SG, you keep 100% of what you earn. When you invest in US stocks, US will take away 30% of your dividends, but that's about it.

Hi kelvin, what are your thoughts about irish domiciled etfs apart from the SP 500? I want to tap into other markets (emerging markets) apart from the US. Financial advisors have very high commission. Because of that, i would need them to at least outperform the S&P500 by 3-6%, and consistently do that. Otherwise just putting in roboadvisor or etf is better.

SG is really good for dividend investing, but not growth. HK has good china tech stocks which are good for growth, the benefit is that there's no risk of china stocks delisting in HK, while US may delist them. So it really depends what you are looking for :)

By itself there’s no interest. U need to transfer the cash into “cash smart” account to earn about 0.5% interest

By the way, that guy is a scammer, my name isn't that weird. Anyway, check this out, in terms of fee, DBS is cheaper. All of them allow you to invest in SG stuff blog.moneysmart.sg/invest/dbs-ocbc-poems-fsmone-regular-savings-plans/ But if you are young, i wouldn't recommend to invest in these because they are too stable and won't give good returns. Instead you can consider using roboadvisor which does almost the same thing but give better returns over 5-10 years.

@@ron2040 No, I'm a regular guy who put my money into insurance savings plan (Singlife, Singtel Dash) on my own accord. Btw, agents will sell you insurance-linked policies (ILPs), not insurance savings plan. They are very different.

If i estimate correctly, your son should be coming to SG to study in 5 years time. In that case, can consider either Endowus Cash Smart 2% portfolio, or bond etf like MBH which has a little risk

Yes totally agree. I bought gold in 2011 at close to $1,900 per ounce. I still love gold even though I have not made any monies in the past 10 years. I am fine watching my friends getting rich by investing in S&P500, tech stocks. I love unproductive assets like gold and silver, because I can hold them in my hands and observe their beauty
