I have a few questions. 1. Do you review resumes ? 2. I have like 3-4 subjects left off my 4-year bachelors degree. It's because I came to the US right before the pandemic and I wasn't able to go back and missed the exams. Do you think I should transfer to WGU or go back and complete with my original college ? 3. Is WGU's bachelors degree acceptable for doing masters in reputable universities ? Thanks.

Hey! Thanks for watching and commenting, I will answer below: 1. Do you review resumes ? Sometimes, but it tends to take a lot of time. Perhaps I'd do it for "free" if I could redact the information and turn it into a video, haha 2. I have like 3-4 subjects left off my 4-year bachelors degree. It's because I came to the US right before the pandemic and I wasn't able to go back and missed the exams. Do you think I should transfer to WGU or go back and complete with my original college ? It really depends on how much work each path takes. What was your other university? If it's easy and your other university isn't some crazy prestigious school, I might just do WGU. 3. Is WGU's bachelors degree acceptable for doing masters in reputable universities ? It is definitely accepted at many state schools, but you're better off asking your target university directly. the WGU bachelor's is graded with a max (and min) GPA of 3.0. Not sure if other universities will care about this. Hope this helps!

I applied for WGU software development and because I've never gotten any IT certifications, I have to do a resume showing 2 years of IT experience. Will this help me? I've done amateur IT work but mostly customer service labeled type work and office assistance. My issue is I was stay at home mom for many years or worked customer service jobs. Kids got older and I wanted to pursue my passion for tech. Been told for years I should be doing it for a living. I've been cleaning /repairing computers, mobile devices, etc.for years. I want to learn more web/software development. I know WordPress development with some css & html but learned it myself. I'm not sure if I can provide a resume with 2yrs of some form of IT experience in the field.

Hey Momma, SUPER good for you trying to better yourself and get into the cool area of software dev. As far as the resume with 2 years experience, you don't have to be 100% honest about where you did your work. All of that experience you listed out is complete valid and deserves to be acknowledged. if I were you, I'd just frame it in a way that makes sense to WGU. Like, maybe you were an independent 1099 contractor doing work as Momma LLC. or something like this. Or maybe one of your friends "employed" you in their business. Bear in mind that things things may not be 100% accurate, but I don't give advice that I don't follow myself. I tend to fudge my resume a lot with the intent to help the person reading it understand my experience and capabilities. Hope this makes sense :)

Thank you for responding 😍 OK I'll have to work on it. I didn't want to show just a list of skills. Each job I had, I did use some type of hardware or software. But luckily I have friends and family that will let me use them as a reference as someone who hired me to work on their tech. Hopefully it's enough for them. Wish me luck 😂 🤞🏼

I realize this is an older video, so you may have answered this elsewhere or may not respond. You seem to recommend purchasing a domain, and I assume pay for monthly hosting. Do you think using Google Sites is unprofessional, or acceptable? (Specifically for someone blogging their content creation AND documenting their path from Day 1.) Thanks in advance, and thanks for all you do!

Josh what degree from WGU is the best one to pursue a career in software engineer. Also what languages should topics should I focus on outside of the degree? I live in Seattle area, know nothing about code really, currently a network engineer for Verizon. I’m at the top of my pay scale and basically want more….

I’m in the BSIT at WGU about to earn my first cert (ITIL)… I have no experience in IT, is it pretty much mandatory to begin with a help desk job? I have a flexible job that allows me to focus on school, but if it’s more beneficial for experience I could get a lower paying entry level IT. What would you suggest?
@CreatineCowboy

I’d obviously prefer to skip the entry level jobs but I understand earning the degree + certs doesn’t earn you the right to higher positions right away

Hey Josh, I'm 18 so can you help me choose between information systems or supply chain management (business).Which degree i should get? I'm think like get a Business degree and do some IT class at the side.I don't really know how that will work out.Pls give ur opinion ^____^
@JoshMadakor
3 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching! The good news is, the barrier to entry for IT isn't really that high, as in, you don't need a whole lot to get started. If you are undecided but dead-set on getting a degree, it might be better to start out with a business degree, or perhaps a business degree in IT management so there is some overlap. If you have some breathing room while doing your degree, you could start looking into professor messer CompTIA A+ vids or watch some other IT people on youtube to get a better feel for the field. If you finish your business degree (or during), and decide you want to work in IT, it doesn't take much to make the jump into the field. (Maybe get the A+ certification and practice a bit on your own and hop into a help desk job. see this vid: kzitem.info/news/bejne/lqqe0at4goyhm2k ) There is a bit of overlap in IT and supply chain management as well, so that's cool :). I know this post was kinda long, but I hope it helped some. If you reply here, it *might* get buried in notifications, but if you make a new comment, i can filter and see it more easily. Anyways, best of luck, and thanks for watching :)

Hey Josh hope you’re well ! I graduated with a bachelors of information systems about 2 years ago but decided to pursue another industry but now I want to get back into tech . I’ve recently been applying for graduate roles but I have 0 experience in the industry so I think that is why I’ve not been getting them . Do you think I should just work at a lvl 1 helpdesk in the mean time or continue to try get these graduate roles ? Unfortunately I have pretty much 0 technical knowledge and experience. I’m hoping to be a business analyst in the future or maybe something in cyber sec. thanks !
@JoshMadakor

Hey Tony, I would definitely just get a lvl 1 helpdesk job as fast as you can. That first bit of experience is really invaluable and will be your gateway into bigger and better things in the field. In my opinion, the first job should be more about experience. Once you have that job for even a few months, you can take your time and apply to other stuff and be a bit more picky and maybe pivot into security or the business side like you mentioned. Best of luck, you already got one of the really hard parts out of the way :)

@@JoshMadakor thanks josh ! I also forgot the mention that I’m pretty competent with technology and can easily pick up new languages /technical skill sets . I believe that I’ll probably have a bit of free time during my helpdesk role . Do you believe it is worthwhile for me to learn coding languages for these future positions ? Also my country is currently subsidising a web dev bootcamp which is 15 weeks long and worth 10,000 ( I only have to pay 2000). Is this something I should maybe consider ? Again thank you for your help .

HEY JOSH, Thank you so much for the videos! It's all honestly been so motivating for me watching these. I'm currently working as a Quality Associate for about 65k a year (which is not bad at all!) and I'm thinking about breaking into the IT space. My main concern is that I don't have any degrees (no associate/bachelors) and I don't have any OTJ experience to get a non-entry level job. I recently moved out so I don't know if I'd be able to make it where I currently live making entry level wages. Do you think it's possible to get a more "mid-level" position with just knowledge? (I automate stuff at work using python and selenium to make my job easier and also have always been the "IT" guy for my family. Maybe I can use this to leverage a higher position?)
@JoshMadakor

Hey Miguel, it's absolutely possible to jump into a mid-low or entry-high position, especially with your python and soft skills. Just work on possibly getting a cert or two, as well as some personal projects under your belt and start applying :). You can absolutely use the things you mentioned for leverage.
